        Question for ya all

As you may know I recently got my bunnies spayed. It has been 10 days today, and they have both healed and recovered very well phew!

We have had them separated since the spay as this is what the vet and most of you recommended.

Now its day 10, and I know that I should be able to have them together again. They are very well bonded, love each other dearly and they really want to be together, as I have noticed from all the biting on the cage wires, keeps me awake all night!!

I would like to have them together again, but i am concerned about the mounting

Aria is always trying to mount Circe and Circe tries to run away. They circle each other. I had them together the other day for less than 2 minutes and Aria was chasing Circe and trying to mount her. I got worried and separated them right away.

What do you guys think I should do?

Is it okay for them to mount right after a spay? I don’t want them to hurt themselves or each other. But i really do want them to be together again.

Is it because they have been separated and need to establish dominance again?

Do they look pretty healed up? I can’t remember what is recommended for heal time, two weeks maybe? I would think by day 10 though that the incision wouldn’t be tempted to come open anymore.

Is there any biting or fighting with the humping? If it is just humping, then you just need to let them sort things out for themselves. Since they were bonded before, they probably just need some time to figure out who’s who again.

Also keep in mind that they may be having a hormone surge right now. Things will die down after a few weeks.

yes they are healed up. I just had them together for a little while. Now I am a bit more worried.
um well it seems that Circe tries to get away from Aria and Aria does not give up chasing her. They keep running in circes around the playpen till Circe gives up and just sits there. I figured maybe I need to let them work it out, so i left them and watched them. When Circe gives up, Aria mounts her for a but and is also trying to like scratch/dig her a little. But then licks her? She keeps doing this. They will sit for a little bit, Circe stays in her corner, Aria chases her for a bit, Circe gives up and then Aria will hump her and then walk away.
If they are just figuring out who is who again, shouldn’t this only occur once ish? not over and over? im not really sure. It really seems like Circe does not want to be around Aria now.
I think Aria nips at her a little bit when she is chasing her but when she is still, she doesnt nip at her. I have seen fur come out of Circe though.

If it doesn’t turn to full on fighting then I’d just let them sort it out. The longer they are separated the harder it may be to put them back together.

You may find the humping will always be a factor in their relationship. It is with some pairs. Hopefully it will decrease though as the hormones lessen.

If you haven’t tried this, put them into a neutral zone rather then one into the other ones cage. So set up a new habitat for them while they reform the bond.

Only hump once? Not necessarily. LOL It could go on for awhile. If they aren’t full on fighting, then it is best to just let them hump things out. They will get over it eventually.

How long are they together at a time?

well before the spay they llived in the same cage. I was planning on attaching a double pen to the cage for em now. guess that aint happening anytime soon. yday I had them together for about half an hour. circe was not happy at all ! and now she just runs away super fast from even looking at aria outside of her cage. I guess I have to do rebonding sessions with em right before they can live together again ?
