callie was playing in the living room, where she's allowed under supervision. i ended up getting into a tv show and knew i couldn't give her adequate supervision, so i picked her up and sat her in my lap on the rocking chair. she sat still, we snuggled, it was great.

normally, callie is crazy hyper, doesn't like to be picked up, and only tolerates short periods of cuddling. was this a fluke, or did the rocking motion actually chill her out?

after about fifteen minutes she perked up and wanted to get down, but i thought she'd last less than a minute!

That's really nice for both of you. It's probably not the rocker per se, but you can try it again on another night and see if she stays. It may be a good time for her to rest with you for some pets and she likes it. If so, she will want it to be a ritual. Don't be hurt if she rejects you the next time, however.

I'm more concerned that you do not rock except when she's in your chair with you. Bunnies underneath rockers and recliners need to be watched carefully.

Ruby is like that with classical music! (Callie is just the sweetest thing by the way). It doesn't get played often in my house and she heard it for the first time about two weeks ago. From the first time till now when she hears it she stops whatever she's doing, ears all perked up, and then lies down - not like she's scared though, more like a lounge. She'll stay like that through 1 or 2 compositions and then get up and start working/playing again
