Lola is such a homebody.  Her cage is wide-open for 10+ hours a day and I would say on average she likes to spend 8+ of those hours lounging in her condo. She “runs” maybe once a night….and that is only when she realizes that I see her heading towards the bedroom where she is not allowed and she books it back to her condo when I look at her (all of maybe 20 ft). I love that she just likes to lay around and cuddle but sometimes it worries me that she is too lazy.

Is my bun just lazy or do lops just prefer to lounge? I have read a couple things online but does anyone else have this issue?  Is there anything you can do to try to get her a little more exercise?  Does she need more exercise?  Just curious!

“Dontcha know that being this adorable is hard work?”

I just realized you can still see her little shaved belly in this picture….poor bun.

My lop is very lazy as well, and has free range of my room 24/7. When I open my bedroom door for him to go into the living room, he will only come out into the hallway before running home to eat or take a nap. I am not sure if I should give up and let him be a 1 room roamer or keep trying to get him to come out. He just gets so scared. Haha.

Lola is EXACTLY the same – our living room/dining room are attached so she has free roam of that.  She won’t go in the kitchen or bathroom because heaven forbid her paws touch something that isn’t carpeted….and the bedroom scares her to death!  She is slowly starting to creep over there but can’t get up the guts to go in herself…which works out because she isn’t supposed to be in there anyways…

I just worry that she isn’t getting enough exercise!  She will “run” the 20 ft to get to her food or litter box but then turns into a bunny loaf and takes a nap right afterwards.  And I have NEVER seen her bunny zoom like I have read about so many other people’s buns doing on this forum!

Cinnabun is the same as Lola. She runs wild first thing in the morning when I’m getting ready, but then settles down once noon hits and naps until about 5 or so, getting up for food and water and the litter box. She’s really quite lazy again until about 9 pm and then she is only active enough to get on the couch with me and beg for nose rubs.

Maybe it’s just a lop thing.   Zeus is a lazy boy too, and it’s definitely not a fear thing.  He pretty much thinks he owns my apartment, and goes everywhere in it.  But he just prefers to stretch out or flop on some tiles or the linoleum (nice and cool) then run around and be crazy and playful.  Most of his “games” include sitting in one place and throwing things around or headbutting things. .

He has plenty of out of cage time, but often chooses to spend it hanging out in his cage, just like you’re describing with your girl.

Basically this is Cinnabun anytime I go to check on her, conked out in her Xpen.

That looks exactly like Lo. I read somewhere on here that it’s difficult to catch your bun with its eyes closed — and I beg to differ. Sometimes my boyfriend and I get nervous because she looks dead! She is SO out of it that you literally have to poke her to get her to move!

Leopold likes to lay around too. Zeus sounds just like him. Sitting in one place, picking something up and then dropping it repeatedly.

My holland lop is as lazy as can be. He’s always been lazy, even as a baby bun, and I’m lucky if I see a little popcorn binky out of him a couple times a week. Generally he just moves from his cage to the living room so he can mix up his napping spots.

My mini lop girl is really high energy, especially for being 5 years old. She needs an activity or she’s going to look for her own thing to get into (generally involving exploration of an area you don’t want her in).

Just from personal observation of shelter bunnies, the mini lops were always more high energy than the hollands too.

Hmm. Must be a Holland lop thing. This Mocha’s favorite sleeping position! Mocha the Holland lop!

I always think he is dead and my heart starts beating really fast and I start getting tears in my eyes until I see he is breathing! My other bunny (A dutch) Is always on the move!

Not sure this is restricted to just lops =p

My little Thumper, a mini rex, is ALWAYS snoozin too! lol. I leave her gate open for her to roam around allllll day long, but I always see her flopped out in a crescent moon shape just relaxing the day away in 1 of 2 places.

She tends to binky around a few times a week, mostly in the morning when I open her gate and occasionally when she sees the greens come out in the evening. Other than that… LAZY! of course she is almost 7 years old now… gramma bun!

Well I can switch you for my non lazy lop Rufus, he has run of the house and the back yard and he is always on the move, when someone comes to the door he dashes there to see who it is and when we take the bins out I think my neighbours think i am crazy because it’s me two dogs two cats and a bunny. Granted the garbo once took my late bin when I chased him down the street in my dressing gown with all my guys. All i have to do is say “go home” and then it is a race to see who can hit the couch first (Rufus has taken out this title twice). But then maybe it is because Rufus thinks he is a dog not a rabbit, and I do have to say that I treat him more like a dog then my other rabbits so maybe it’s a mental thing?

I do not have a lop, but a dwarf rabbit. Most people think that they are ‘high energy’ and Chacha is not the case. She likes to lounge in the sun or underneath the dining room table. She prefers to be lazy, and on occasion will binky and dance in her blankets or do Bunny 500s. Otherwise, she is quite lazy She won’t lay out and look dead, but likes to loaf, snooze, and get some vitamin D

my lop is a lazy boy, he will run around and zoom for maybe 10 mins but then wants to relax for the rest of the time

Bindi is a lazy lop too. I have one lop, and two uppy eareds and Bindi is the laziest of the three. As I type, hes lounged on the floor while Stormy is zooming around.

I’m so jealous of all these lazy lop stories! I have hypo-bun 300 at my house. His new game is to zoom around causing destruction as normal, then come up to me, and if im not paying attention, jump on my face and then zoom away again..
on the other hand he does love his flops! they just tend to only last for a minute or 2

Dini is really lazy as well. I rarely see him standing unless there is food around. He is also deaf so I have to shake the treat jar directly in front of him to motivate him to move.

BonBon spends the vast majority of her time relaxing. She does get a bit peppy in the evening when enjoys shredding papper and digging at the bottom of her cardboard box “houses”. But really that only lasts maybe a half hour or so.

Theodore’s a very lazy Holland lop as well! Haha that’s so funny. I thought it was just him but I guess not. He’s 2 years old and when I let them run around my room he just hops around looking for food and if he can’t find any he’ll just go back to his cage. His favorite thing to do is eat, and lounge next to his young/hyper girlfriend. When he was housed by himself he would literally just sit by the front of the cage all day waiting for food, but when I let him out he’d just be out for maybe 15 minutes.

I wish I had your lazy buns .-. lol Bilbo is rather active. He zooms around his play pen and likes to go where he isn’t supposed to when he is out of his playpen (ex: the kitchen). I see him sneak along the wall and look around by the vent then when I ask what he thinks he’s doing he darts back onto his blanket. He binkies often especially after just eating his vegetables. I’ve only seen him sleep likes he’s dead once and I freaked out so I’m guessing that’s why he won’t do that around me anymore (he jolted awake after I poked him). He lays down in his red cat-box (it’s made out of thin material not sure what to call it) and spreads out sometimes though never for more than ten minutes at a time. He has been a lot more active since I got him the playpen. Now he can be out for around 7 hours a day as can my 98 lb dog. Bilbo actually tries to tear through the playpen mesh to go after my dog. Already have 2 holes in the playpen YAY have to sew those soon. I’ve noticed he has been chowing down a lot more. He eats all his hay and all his pellets by morning now so I’ve been putting more of both in his cage. I assume it is because he’s running around a lot more. I wish he’d sleep like the buns in the pictures. Maybe he is when he lays in his box and I just don’t know he is because of the whole sleeping with his eyes open?

I’m sure once I allow them upstairs, that’ll spark some more excitement lol (they’re technically free roam but because they’re newly bonded, I’m expanding their space again but slowly)
