So today I was out shopping and stopped in to Petland to get my daily fix of bunny cuteness. I promised myself I would never buy from them because A) puppy mill, duh. B) their rabbits are ridiculously over priced and C) I just don’t agree with them as a whole. Anyway, I walk in and see their last lop and lionhead had been sold. Boo, no bunny petting. But then I look over in the corner and there are two cages stacked together with a sign that said “Free to a good home (with purchase of basic supplies)”. I look in the top one and see a guinea pig. Meh. I look in the bottom one and see the most handsome brown eyes looking back at me and a nose twitching fiercely. SQUEE! A BUNNY!

I asked the manager if I could hold him, and she brought him to me in one of their little rooms. I sat their stroking him for a while and then let him hop around and explore. He let me pick him up with no problems, and I carried him around the store. It was perfect timing too, because a bunch of college kids came in looking for a rabbit (“omg, I should like… get a bunny! Aw! Look she has a bunny, I want itttt!” ) and I decided I had to take him home. I asked if I could just make a donation instead of buying their (CRAPPY) supplies, so I donated $10 to St. Jude’s and walked out the door.

Buns doesn’t have a name yet. The boyfriend wants to name him Buns. He said his feet look like Twinkies, but I don’t think that makes a very cute name. He is 6 months old, from petland (sigh), and he was surrendered last night by a couple of college roommates who were moving and couldn’t take their pets with them. He is extremely docile, but not very adventurous. He definitely sees his cage as his home and doesn’t feel like venturing from it just yet. Not litter trained at all, and of course not neutered. Tomorrow I’m going to look for a vet for a check up. Right now I’m hanging out by his cage so he can get used to me. He’s definitely got a different personality than Tofu and I look forward to getting to know him

PS- I NEED A NAME!! HELP!

PPS- the friend who was going to give me her bunny got cold feet. Apparently her husband was feeling super sad about giving her away so she is more than happy that I have a new friend and she gets to keep her rabbit

What an adorable face. I don’t blame you. I can’t walk into pet stores at all anymore. I just get far too emotional. I always thought Jack would make a good name for bunnies with the eyeliner after everyone’s favorite swaggering pirate. Or, playing on that same theme, Sparrow…Captain….ect.

AW! He looks like an English spot, English spots are my FAVORITE. I’ve always wanted one and I won’t stop wanting one until I get one. I also want a lion head, It’d be nice if I could find a lion head, english spot mix. I’d scoop it up in an instant! Well, hes a cute one. I have some name suggestions
                      Sebastian
                      Peanut
                      Pepper
                      Binky
                      Ziggy
                      Charles
                      Splash
                      Chester
                      Jiggy
                      Pip
                      Peter
                      Magic
                      Buster
                      marley
                      Bugs
                      Weston
                      King

Just go on petfinder.com and look up bunnies. Don’t look at the pictures- you’ll fall in love, just read the names until you find one you love. Thats what I did with my second bunny, well kinda. Fobey, I found Pheobe but it was much to formal for her. So Fobey it was. My first rabbit, Ella, I was obsessed with Twilight so put Bella backwards and my friends said I should give her a name in pig latin, don’t ask why so I tried Bella-Ellaba and I liked Ella. And Toby, my third, I thought was going to get along with Fobey, wrong, so I wanted their names to rhyme.

                        He’s has a pretty colour.
I can see a bit of long hair on his head like a Mohawk! That’s cute. Possible he has a bit of lionhead in him.

He’s definitely not an English spot though. They have very distinct body shape and markings and a breed that’s not likely to turn up in a pet shop or rescues. But I can see why you had thought he could be because if those markings. I had thought my bun had bit of e spot in her when first got her but I’ve since learnt more about them.
It will be hard to ever know the breed mix in him for sure. But that little Mohawk would tell you he has a bit of one of the long fur breeds in him -likely lionhead.
                        Is he about 5lbs?

He is adorable and so much better off with you then in that pet store. I’m still torn on the size of him. He looked so small in the first couple pictures than huge with your boyfriend and small again with the computer

I decided to go with the name Finn. The little tuft of hair on his head and behind his ears makes me think of a rock star and I think Finn is the perfect rock star name!

Thanks for nixing the breed, Jerseygirl! I was basing it purely on his spots and the stripe down his back. I agree he probably has some lionhead in him, especially with the tuft of hair and the shape of his ears. Any idea what else could be in him?

He’s very shy. He won’t come out of his cage if I’m near him. He was exploring the house a little today but pooping everywhere so I put him back in his pen. The door to his cage is open, but he prefers to lay in his litter box than come out in the open :/ He really likes hay! He ate the whole hanger already! I am setting up a neuter for him next week along with a check up. The prices in Orlando are RIDICULOUS so I’ll be driving the 3 hours to Sarasota again. A $40 check up and $90 neuter with a vet I trust is worth the drive compared to a $70 check up and a $350-$900 (really!) neuter close to home.

Well he is adorable whatever breed he is. There is a rescue close to me that seized about 50 English spots a few years ago. They still have a couple of them and I’ve always wanted one. Unfortunately it’s really hard to adopt from there. I’ve tried a few times and all have failed. But my favorite kinds of rabbits are English spots or lion heads… I’ve wanted a lion head English spot mix for the longest time. Enjoy Finn. He’s a cutie

He’s big! Especially for a baby. So you think he’s a bigger breed? Or a mix witha bigger breed? Maybe we will have a better idea when he’s full grown

I am glad you took the rabbit in. He is such a handsome little boy. He looks really big. I love the excitement of getting a new rabbit. I haven’t had a new rabbit in 2 1/2 years. I did get to rabbit sit for my friend which I loved because then I could give the rabbit back. Good Luck to you. As for litter training I have had excellent success. I just place the litter box with hay in the cage and my 8 week old rabbit used it with only 1 accident. It takes time and things will get better.

I always said that if I ever got a black and white spotted rabbit I would name it “Dice”. Plus when you’re scolding him “No, Dice!” sounds pretty fun. Lol. But! Since I had the exact same experience that you did with a bunny I fell in love with it first sight… At Petland. (ugh) I’d been wanting him for about 2 months straight and no one had come in for him so I picked him up and got to hold him and he hugged me. I swear it. I would put him on the ground and he would jump up onto my shoulder and chill out. How can you say no to that?! I’d been trying to get a shelter rabbit for ages but they were always sooooo farrrr away from my location… Plus they wanted a ton of references. I love my little Poe.
