I have had Snowy for 2-3 years and am trying to improve her newly senior life! I need some help with the following if anyone can help: Feeding (she weighs 5 or 6 lbs when i read French Lop’s should be more like 10), excersizing (she get’s out 2 times a week though i am trying to get her out more like 5-7 – also she doesn’t like toys i make, only the tree twig balls from the store, so she doesn’t get much excersize), habitats (she lives in a large cage that is hard to care for, but i don’t have room for a pen even if it’s what i really, REALLY want for her!), and a medical issue…her left hind leg sticks out farther and is fairly weaker than her other, though not paralyzed. I think it has to do with the improper handling she got in the past…unfortunately most was from me being scared of her scratching me…

Love BinkyBunny site!!! Who else?? oh, everybody, i know!

Welcome to BB! I can’t do much to help with any of the questions other than ask what you are currently feeding her? Also only having her out 2 times a week isn’t nearly enough. You’ll be able to find tons of helpful information on here though so I’m sure all your questions will be answered soon .

Welcome! I don’t think she’s a French Lop if she’s only 5 or 6 pounds, probably more likely a Mini Lop (although I don’t know why they call them Mini’s).

She should get out daily for exercise if you can.

Have you had a vet check out her leg lately? How old is she exactly?

I agree with Sarita, 5-6 lbs is a Mini lop. If you can post a pic we can take a look at her face and body and try to figure out if she really is a French Lop. If you can’t get an Xpen or make a NIC condo for the bun, I would suggest bunny proofing an area that you feel comfortable letting her out in and then watching her closely, but like Isabella and Sarita said, 2x a week is really not enough. I’m also curious as to how old she is, I believe they start to classify rabbits as “senior” at 6 or 7 years of age.

Welcome to BB I agree with the others that it sounds like more mini lop size. Have you ever taken her to a rabbit savvy vet? Maybe she can help figure out what exactly is going on with her leg.

Thanks so much to everyone who is so helpful!! oh yes we took her to a rabbit vat who also was confused about it…said she either dislocated it or had some spinal injury. It does not disable her at all, that makes me so happy! Cinnabun (love the name) – She is about 6…her previous owners just had her sitting in a tiny cage looking pretty for so many years that they forgot how old she was….hehe….you can see why i took her. So yeah i knew 2 times a week was really bad, but i just wondered cause she’s getting on in years! To everybody’s mini lop comments, she’s a LOT bigger than a mini lop! she’s simply underweight i think; can feel her hips, ribs and spine suuuuper easily. No matter what i do she won’t eat quite enough to gain weight =(!!
I LOVE how helpful and nice everybody is!!!! =DDDD

You should put up some pics so we can see her little face!

Well as for her weight: be cautious about over compensating with lots of pellets and treats. Try more veggies, but increase slowly so her tummy doesn’t get upset.

Welcome! As to the aging, and exercise, shes actually not that old… However, you should still give her daily exercise, worst case is that she would just lie down during play time, but your at least giving her to chance to have some fun!

She’s very pretty! From the pictures I don’t think she looks underweight but I’m no expert.

Took pictures during playtime…they’re so cute i have to post them!  We worked on ‘situps’ (she’s so good at them – sniff, sniff! I’m a proud bunny mama!) and she was exhausted (yeah right) by the time playtime was over.

PS ther’s a thumbnail…don’t know if it will open, but any way…she found a new best friend…got a little too overzealous with it though.

Oops forget the thumbnail it won’t work. But it’s of Snowflake and a stuffed animal…a Dutch like rabbit, to be exact. Looks a lot like her REAL buny buddy. Hmph. Strange…but the pic is cute!

IsabellaRobyn i like the picture thread you started! So many great photos on there. Belle is adorable…watch out i might steal her!! =)
