My bun, Cadbury, was said to be a female. The staff at the pet store checked for me and gave me their conclusion. Now, I know that it is very difficult to sex young rabbits, so I waited a month. She still looked like a she. I checked at age 5 months, today, and she still looked like a she. But, the reason I’m wondering this is that lately Cadbury has been making a different sort of her usual grunting or “oinking”. It sounds much quieter, and goes on, over and over. Similar to this video- http://youtu.be/4kNzfRwdUjI

And she (or he) will get very close to my female spayed cat, Angel. Angel will swat Cadbury away, but Cadbury always comes back. I know it sounds like Cadbury might be a boy, and I have a vet appointment, but I wanted to see what you guys think.

The behavior could be male or female. The best way to confirm gender is by taking your bunny to the vet. This is a good time to schedule a spay/neuter and get familiar with vet and the staff too!

Thanks…I’m hoping that Cadbury is a female because I don’t know if I could start calling her a he!

As MD said, that behavior is very familiar with both males AND females in need of spaying or neutering.

Definitely sounds like it’s a good time to find out and schedule the procedure though!

Yes, it is still very possible she is a girl. That behavior is characteristic of both boys and girls. Without any visible jewels, it can be very hard to sex bunnies. A trip to the vet would be your best bet.

Actually, if she is a he then I would think there would be something down there at 5 months. You don’t see anything? If not, it doesn’t necessarily mean she is really a girl. But if they are there, well then there is no arguing that. LOL

Thank you all for your answers! Hopefully the vet will help!

Okay, I just saw Cadbury “humping” my cat. On top of her. I’m still going to the vet, but I have a feeling that Cadbury is a buck.

                        Females can definitely hump too.
Glad to hear your going to take Cadbury to the vet. Let us know how it goes.

My female humped everyone – LOL. So I definitely would not assume that makes her a male.

Definitely let us know what they say!

I’ve separated Cadbury and my cat… (I’m calling Cadbury a girl for now)
The only thing is that Cadbury still wants to hump something. So, I gave her a plush toy. She wasn’t interested at all. Then I gave her a rabbit sized rubber ball. Once again, not interested. I was wondering if there was anything that you would suggest to give her. My cat desperately would like to go onto our screened in porch, but Cadbury is there and still tries to hump Angel, my cat. ????????????
                                ?????????

Good news! Cadbury had her vet appointment and she is a she! Thank you for your replies, once again.

                                    Yay!

I took Bromley to the vet yesterday to get neutered and the vet assistant said “you are a long time bunny owner so I won’t doubt his gender!” But then I started to doubt myself and told her we should double check because I sexed him when he was 5 weeks old and haven’t peeked down there since so for all I know he could be a girl (he’s very fluffy so I would have to dig to find his genitals). Nope! The assistant was very pleased to say he had two jewels. Is it wrong that all I thought was that I am a bunny genital champion?

Haha! I think it’s something to be proud of.
