What is normal pee output for a netherland dwarf?  I’m a bit sensitive since I have a cat in renal failure.  DH thinks I’m making a big deal out of it, but I feel it is excessive urine output.  She had bloodwork done in Spring and showed that renal issues were likely on the horizon due to her age.  Due to some ant issues in the bunny pen, we now feed them in the living room, we don’t get ants when we do that.  This weekend I observed 4 pee spots over the period of 1.5 hours.  She uses the box for pooping, it’s just the pee.  Is this excessive?  I’m hoping to get a vet appt this week, but DH thinks I”m over reacting.  I know its Jessica and not the other rabbit, b/c I caught her doing it a few times.

Not sure the normal output for a dwarf but judging from what I observe with my buns (Olivia is only 3 lbs and something, so pretty small), peeing 4 times in less than 2 hours seems like a lot.

How old is she? It could just be her bladder weakening with age or there might be something that needs vet attention. Is she drinking more than usual?

My husband often thinks I’m reacting to things with my buns, but as the old saying goes “Mother knows best”. We know our buns and we know when something is off.

I think I might be more concerned with excessive thirst rather than excessive pee…but I thing I would consult a vet if it were me and I had questions on this. I have a netherland and he seems to pee quite a bit for a wee fellow but not excessively.

It’s hard to say, I think peeing that many times in two hours does seem excessive. Since you had some indication on bloodwork that this could come up I’d say it’s best to see the vet and find out what’s going on.

DH thinks that it is defiance.  I think i’m going to get this wrong…but it was something about either she wants more pellets & treats? or she doesn’t like sharing the veggies w/ her bunny boyfriend.  It really didn’t make sense to me.  He’s saying that she is being manipulative as it is behavior pee and she’s doing it just to piss us off.  I explained that I wasn’t too confident that an Almond sized brain could have that much manipulation in it.  I’m a psychologist and I know that most children don’t have the qualities of manipulation (i.e. stages of empathy, etc).  He’s a bonehead!  She goes in on Mon AM.

I have a Netherland dwarf at home, and from what I can tell how often she pees will depend on what she has eaten. To give an example if she recently ate a pile of veggies she will pee more often. Sometimes with little treats she will pee more often but in small amounts. Maybe your bun’s stomach is reacting to something they ate?

Also, DH may be right about the defiance (to an extent), if Ruby is upset with me for something she won’t start peeing more but she will pee outside of her litter box when she usually wouldn’t.

If it’s often enough to cause worry, you should take her for another check up just to be sure!
