So today’s surprise was a bunny full of nits and lice! xD Found that up after he’s spent the better part of today being oh so brave and exploring the rest of my studio and hanging out with the cats and the dog. I haven’t seen him scratch but did notice his hair looked kinda scruffy but just thought it was because he had been an outdoor bunny. Sigh. Oh well!

So he got half a doze of a cat Advantage Multi and I’m not too worried about my other pets because they got their monthly dose last week. I know I can’t get them, but all the same just knowing he has them has made me itch all over xD

He finally got a name too, James Buns I was telling a friend last night that if I end up keeping him I’m getting him a girlfriend, naming her Jessie and getting them a Meowth plusshie lol.

Anyway. Here’s a picture of him from yesterday sniffing the pup.

Uh oh….poor James Buns (love the name!!!). Are you going to try combing him with one of those lice combs? That’s what I would do.

I’ve actually never heard of a bunny getting lice before. I’ve had to deal with a horse that had lice. That was not fun!

            Thanks!

I tried a flea comb I keep around for the kitties but it didn’t work at all, his hair is too fine… I don’t know if the lice combs have finer teeth or something but I’ll try to get one tonight when I stop by the drug store I didn’t know bunnies could get them either! I wouldn’t have known what they were if I hadn’t seem them before, my first rescue rat I got years ago came with tons of the little suckers too :/

I would see if you can take him to the vet. The vet maybe able to help with getting rid of it and guide you as to what to do if it gets worse or how to get them off. I hope James gets better!

This is a new one for me too! I am guessing it’s not all that common? Fleas and mites being more of the common complaint when it comes to parasites. So advantage gets rid of them?

EDITED:  Oh, you said Advantage Multi.  I just did a little google search and though I read that Revolution kills lice, I DO NOT know if Advantage-Multi is safe – looking at the ingredients, it looks different than Advantage and Revolution, so I would caution against using it Advantage-Multi until you can consult with a rabbit-savvy vet.    I know you already did, and if all is fine, that’s great, but I would still double check before using in the future.

He will be going to the vet next week for an exam and neuter So far he’s been doing really well (lost all shyness and is being a brat but I still love the little dude! lol) The advantage multi worked really well (and before I applied it we did double checked with the rabbit vet the rescue uses, we also have a guinea pig at the rescue’s facility that’s been on it for the last month and a half with no issues). The vet recommended giving him half a dose and then repeat with a second dose 3 weeks later I also double checked with the vet I work with and she said it wouldn’t hurt the bunny and would definitely kill the lice.

He’s been doing better, like I said, he’s turned into a total brat who pees everywhere and chases my cats around trying to hump them (same with my feet -_- lol). I honestly don’t know how the previous owner never noticed he wasn’t a girl– it was quiet obvious within a few days of him being here. He’s also doing better with the hay, I give him 1/8 of a cup twice a day, give him veggies once or twice a day and have hay and water available the rest of the day
