hey guys.. so Yeti seems like a healthy little dude.. but i see everyone on the forum talking about their baby bunnies who are 2-3lb’s

i cant seem to get Yeti’s weight up over 2lb’s and hes over a year old… “/ he seems healthy and does a lot of eating and running..

there have been NO medical issues found.

WHY do i have a feather light bun compared to everyone else..?

        could it be his breed?

could he have suffered from starvation before we rescued him?

im concerned that perhaps i should be feeding him more.

should i up his pellet intake until he gets more tubby or should he be fine?

Is Yeti a lionhead? I think I read somewhere that some lionheads are even smaller than a mini lop (or dwarf lop US) just because of the breeding.

he’s a lionhead mixed with something else… the most common guess being jersey wooley.

Have you ever taken him to the vet? Monkeybun, another member on this site has a rabbit that weighs even less than that! A vet can tell you if Yeti is at a healthy weight.

I would recommend not trying to increase or decrease weight without a vet order, and their input on how.

For one thing rabbits have very sensitive livers and kidneys and weight gain or loss can be hard on these organs. For another, as long as your bunny isn’t rail thin (in which case I’d be exploring the medical reason, for example worms) I wouldn’t worry at all.

How do you know the weight? Was he weighed at the vet? If he was, and they didn’t urgently tell you to change the weight, I’d highly recommend not changing anything.

Kahlua is less than 3 lbs, and Rupert is almost 10lbs. Both are healthy weights-rabbits have health ranges, and even within a breed and a purebred, they can be very different in frame and weight. So my advice is adamantly to leave it be unless your vet says otherwise

My Monkey is only 1.5 lbs. So don’t take other people’s bunnies weight into consideration of yours Only a vet can tell you if your bun is over or underweight accurately.

Judging from Monkeybun’s Monkey and another member’s Holland Lop, it sounds like his breed mix is with a very small one, such as a Lionhead/Holland Lop combo. So a very tiny bunny with a low weight is normal for that breed. If the vet has examined Yeti and declared him healthy, and you have him on a good diet, I would not worry. Even a fully grown rabbit will gain a bit after a couple of years, but early adulthood tends to be lean.

kokaneeandkahlua: he was weighed at the vet when he got the full check up about 2 months ago and he was 1.8’s

thanks guys.. hes noms everything i give to him within 5 minutes like he starving but i know hes not. so i dont think im going to worry. i did a whole bunch of reading last night on different breeds that could possibly be mixed in with a lionhead. and you’re all right about him being a small combo. and hes not pin thin hes got a little beer belly goin on.
as long as hes healthy. im happy.
