i am hoping that within the next year or so i will beable to get myself a couple bunnys and was wondering if it would be easyer to adopt a brother and sister together since they will already be bonded or if it is a better idea to get them from diffrent litters and hope they bond.

Don’t assume a brother and sister will be bonded. Quite often that sibling bond breaks. What would be better is adopting a spayed and neutered pair from a shelter, then you know it will work

Siblings aren’t bonded, you’d have to separate them in different housing until both are altered and recovered, then bond them.

You can rescue an already bonded pair, I think if you want 2 that’s the easiest way to go. Otherwise I’d get 1, wait until he/shes older, altered, and you’ve got a bond with it, then take it bunny dating at shelters/rescues and find a mate it’ll get along with. If you bring home a surprise bunny, its still possible, but it can be really difficult. I’m on month 4 of territory poop battles, pee battles, a couple scary scuffles when 1 escaped, separate housing/ litter boxes etc. I love my girls so I can’t say I would change it, but in the future I’d rescue a bonded set from the start, or stick with 1.

Yes, agreed with Monkeybun and Sam. Rabbits don’t really have the concept of family. If you adopt siblings as babies you would have to separate them right away and until they are both spayed and neutered, otherwise they will mate (even though they are siblings). Then there is no guarantee they will be bonded or get along with each other (the chance of them bonding doesn’t increase because they are siblings or family), and chances are they might not even remember each other. If you adopt an already bonded pair of rabbits from a shelter then you know they will get along, they will already be altered (saves you lots of $$), and you won’t have to go through the process of bonding, which can be difficult. Pairs also commonly don’t get adopted as quickly as other rabbits because often someone will think that two would be too much work or they just only want one, so you’d be really helping out

thanks everyone the replies helped alot just one more quistion anyone know of a good rescue in Montana where i might find a bonded pair. since i live in a major farm area most of the rabbits that i have found in shelters are single ones that the farm kids raises for 4-H and than got rid of when they were done with them so it has been really had finding any that were kept as pets almost all of them were kept as “projects.”

“Project” bunnies make just as good pets as ones raised as pets Just need a bit of liter box training, and often that happens in shelters. Don’t discount a previous 4H bunny too quick

Unfortunately Montana doesn’t have a chapter of the House Rabbit Society or I would’ve recommended starting there. If you search on google “rabbit rescues in Montana” a lot of stuff comes up. Also check petfinder.com
