Our rabbit was spayed one week ago. At first she wouldn’t eat and was force fed critical care for 48 hrs and has grandually gotten her appetite back. Today was the first day the vet said she could be out of her cage and she was happy all morning running around the house. Her activity level seemed pretty normal for her pre-spay self. This afternoon she stopped eating and has been backed into the corner of her cage. When I tried to get her out for the evening she immediately ran back in and got in the same spot, occasionally scratching at the floor and shifting a little but otherwise pretty stationary. Her inscision sight is healed and has no infection. No teeth grinding. She sat in pee and I later found that her entire underbelly was super wet and cold. I gave her a warm rinse and have wrapped her in a towel and fed her a bit of critical care.
Anyone have any experiences with this? Honestly I am wondering more now if she is going to make it than after her spay.

She sounds in pain…. can you call your vet? Do you have any pain meds left you can give her? The sudden change is very alarming. If you have an ER vet I would take her, especially given your last sentence. You know her best.

She may have gotten too much space too early in healing…. Our rescue waits two weeks before giving free run post-spay.

I would also take her temperature, it may be low due to sitting in pee and/or being in pain. You can wrap a hot water bottle in a towel for her to cuddle up to. Make sure she is very dry, and keep syringe feeding her. Has she pooped?

Well I wish someone had told me that about free run…the vet said 1 week and everything I read online seemed conflicted, with nothing about waiting that long ?
I do think she is in pain. She keeps shifting.
She lasted through the night and hopefully I can talk to the vet in a couple hours.
Her temp was a little low and I did snuggle her up in a towel until she was more toasty.
Not sure if I should be treating it like GI Stasis, but she does seem to have stopped pooping. She pees where she sits.

Yes, please get her to the vet ASAP. This sounds very serious at this point.

Keep syringe feeding her. Give any pain meds you have. Keep her warm and dry.

Hi again. I commented on your other thread mentioning this. I said similar there to what DanaNM said here

If it is to the point she is peeing where she sits, has a lowered temp, and doesnt seem to be pooping, she really needs to see an emergency vet. Worse case, something tore or created a blockage. Best case, shes grumpy. You wont know unless you head to a well trained vet.

Thanks for commenting. She did go to the vet first thing this morning. Technically the vet was not taking appointments today but they allowed me to drop her off and the vet was going to evaluate her and diagnose, but I still have not heard back on the status. It is night now and I know they keep overnight staff, so she will be cared for. Meanwhile I don’t know if this means she is stable or they are still trying to determine what is wrong. I am confident she is in good hands as this vet constantly deals with rabbits, however lacking their communication is.
I am anxious to find out what is going on in the morning and praying it’s affordable.

An Update: Olive has been on pain meds and something to get her gut moving again. She has started nibbling food and pooped a few times. The vet is hoping that tomorrow she will be improved enough to bring home.

Great for taking her to the vet! Is it possible to call them and request an update?
