        Hi all!

Well Bella is doing great with her litter training and just few poops here and there so that is great!

My problem is I use Carefresh bedding for her, Valen and my 2 chinchillas. It sticks in Bella’s hair EVERYWHERE! She lays on her side and gets it in her ears, face, all over her hind feet and belly. She gets mad at me for picking it off of her and I hold her over the trash can and clean her belly area before I let her run around the house.  (Note: I use an aspen pellet form litter in her box)

I don’t know if I should just take it out and use a fleece blanket or towel for her to be on, since the coroplast is slippy?  What do you think?

my buns have towels that line the cage- i think if she’s no longer peeing in the cage and just her in litterbox then you can switch over to blankies or something else thats soft.

Well my bun has a similar problem, his cage bedding sometimes gets on him like a little dust layer. It takes a little effort to get out and he doesn’t like it very much. He also has little tufts of fur on his back area. My sister and I get so annoyed and try to pick it out but he just ends up scurrying away. It is almost completely gone. My advice to you is that it doesnt hurt them to pick stuff out of their fur so long as you don’t pull to hard. A way to determine this is to use the same strength on you to pull stuff out on you as the bunny. If it hurts you, chances are it will hurt your bun. I also don’t think you should put her over the trash can as she could easily get hurt. If you feel it is necessary, you should think about giving her a bath and perhaps even changing the bedding.

Thanks Katie, I think I will try the blanket/towel option. She is good about not peeing outside her box.

Just to clarify for Lemon, I hold her butt against my stomach and brush her belly and feet off. I wouldn’t let her get hurt.

yeah i think brushing her off is perfectly harmless

When I had long haired hamsters Carefresh would often tangle in their fur- so I had to use a rounded paper pebble litter.  I would recommend buying some fleece from the fabric store or cheap fleece blankets.

I would take out the carefresh too. It might actually help in her litter training also. Good to hear she’s getting it.

I triple ditto the fleece or some other soft cloth. I know that when I was litter training, I would have a half a dozen little blankets and/or fleece.(that I got from the fabric store). That way I could always have a fresh one while the others were washing.

as everyone else suggested, i think using fleece or some other blanket would be good idea as the bedding.

I think that the fleece is a good idea especially because if she does pee on it, you can shake it out and then throw it in the wash. Eventually you could probably switch to a rug.

Is the carefresh just in her litterbox, or is it also on the floor of the cage? You probably don’t need it on the floor of the cage if it is there. For all of my bunnies I put a layer of hay in their litterbox over the litter, mainly because I use pelleted litter and I think the hay is softer on their feet than just the litter.

I have an update, I took all her bedding out and put down a towel and a fleece blanket that I bought. Seems to be going well and she loves to lay on the blanket! I am planning on going to the fabric store and buying a few more yards so I can switch them out for laundry.

Moobunny, the carefresh was just her bedding, I use a different litter for her box. I put hay down too, because the pellets are hard. We are total bunny-slaves!

She looks so much prettier without bedding in her hair…lol!

I would take out the carefresh. I think it’s much much easier to clean up a cage when there’s only a towel or fleece down as well. And my bun prefers to lay on the bare cage floor, so he doesn’t even seem to need additional bedding (though he does like the fleece for traction)

Bella loves the fleece so I am happy! She is doing soooo well, just a few stray poops!
