I’m taking Cassy today to Rabbitears in Kensington CA to get bonded!  There are 3 boys there that are possible husbunnies for her and I’m really excited!  Hopefully they will get along!

Ahh!  Rabbit Ears!  That’s a great place. I stop by there often to get bunny basics and pet the bunnies.

I am excited for you and Cassy.  Keep us updated. And don’t get discouraged if one of them doesn’t hit the mark yet.  My first bunny, Forrest, went through something like five or six bunnies before he made up his mind.

Sorry I havnt posted in forever, I got really busy…*sigh* but anyway,

Judy at rabbitears is AMAZING with Bunnies!  She had 3 boys for Cassy to speed date.

First was "Chuck" a hotot/netherland dwarf mix who is about 2 pounds might be 3 when he grows up who looks sorta like a hotot but with black on his ears, one spot on his side, and more of a Netherland Dwarf head. We put them together and other than humping Cassy’s head a bit, she did a flop and they groomed each other a bit.

Second was "Cream" who was a sort of Jack Rabbit looking while with grey spotted rabbit and they got along ok and would probably get along just fine.  He was about 5 pounds.

Third was "Cookies" who was a 5lb black dutch boy with blue eyes (brother of Cream) who started things off by startling Cassy and she didnt take kindly to that and we had to separate them because she was not having it, he seemed into her but she didnt want to him near her.

Never the less, after our amazing success with Cassy and "Chuck" who I decided to rename Alexandar, we put them in the carrier together for the ride home (we took the long way) and then put them both in Cassy’s home.  Alexandar chased her around for a while (poor girl was so tired from running away) but finally after a night together, they are getting along quite well, grooming each other and hes not humping her anymore. Alexandar also has done some binkies and loves fresh veggies which I dont think he got tons of in the past.

I was also wondering, Alexandar is leaving little poops around all over, but 90% using the litter box (I have one for each of them if they want) I know it is marking his territory, but is there a way to minimize this?

              Pics Soon!

Awe I’m so happy for Cassey! That’s great you’ve added Alexander to her life! You are right, the poos are territorial. As for minimizing it, how many is he really releasing outside of the litter box? If it is only a few, it should curb off once he is settled in, but if it is more, then you may need to limit his free space and gradually expand it once he will only go in the litter box. Not really knowing his personality it can be tricky to figure out what his bunny motive is and what if anything you need to do.

Its only a few he is leaving outside the litterbox, so hopefully it will stop once he is settled down =)  He’s a real sweet bunny, and doesnt mind being picked up and cuddled (which Cassy HATES) so that is really nice =)

Oh my goodness that’s GREAT he loves to be picked up and loved on! When you have one bunny that doesn’t like it, it is always nice to have another that does, it makes it extra special. How is Cassey doing with her new mate? Is she OK with the human scent on Alexander?

They are doing fantastic (see pictures in Lounge section) And Cassy loves being petted and loved but just not picked up, so I think the person smell is fine with her.  She also grew up (like Alexander will) in my Co-op housing where people come in to "pet the bunnies" and see them all the time so they become really good people bunnies.  I’m happy that they will have each other to fill the void that people can never quite fill though =)

I’m so happy to hear that Cassy found a wonderful husbunny! My guess is once he’s settled in the pooping outside the box will decrease, How great that they bonded so quickly 🙂 Ya!!!

He should stop doing the territorial poos once he feels secure enough that he has left enough “messages” to any possible outside intruder. For rabbits, these poos are just sign posts that say – This is MY home, MY gal, and MY human. I love this place and I will be willing to defend it. (unless your very big and scary) Once he’s posted enough poop messages around – could take a couple of weeks, and he has received no challenges during that time,(which he won’t since he lives in your home) then I’d say he’d start to back off the poopfest.

One of our members actually used a method of taking a damp cloth rubbing it over their bunny and then rubbing that cloth in the area that her bunny liked to marked. Since the scent then was already there, her bunny felt less of a need to mark there so much.

                              You could try that.

I’m so excited to hear the bonding went so well! I love taking bunnies on dates, especially when there is love at first site – I’m very happy for little Alexander. I think the territorial poops will subside soon. My bunnies re-territorialize their area when a new bunny comes around, just to show their dominance, so he’s probably just trying to establish that he is “in charge” (until a loud noise comes around, then *zoom* nowhere to be found) and I think it should subside soon.

Thanks everyone!  It’s good to know the poops will stop someday (as it is it is not too bad)  I might try the wet  cloth thing too =)
