I know this question has been asked before, but the thing is, I really think I would prefer a girl bunny. I’m supposed to pick out my rabbit from a litter, and I know people say that male rabbits might make better pets. But if I spayed a female rabbit, would it make a difference?

I also really don’t want to take the chance of a male rabbit that is constantly spraying. And I have a girl dog, so I’m wondering if there would be a problem with humping? Has anyone had that?

I have to pick really soon and I’m at a complete loss. I want to be able to cuddle with it, but I’m partial to a girl (Plus I’d like to name it Buttercup, and that wouldn’t work at all for a boy ) Does anyone have an opinion on it? I’d really appreciate any help! Thanks much!

          They do?

If you would rather have a female, then get a female. But fyi, females can spray too. I’ve got a boy and a girl (my girl’s called Buttercup ) and neither one has sprayed so it really depends on the individual bun. Most bunnies don’t like cuddling – again it comes down to the individual. Sex has nothing to do with it.

If you want a girl bun, get a girl bun. The main disadvantage with a girl as I see it is that a spay is much more invasive and a bigger procedure than a neuter. It’s more expensive too, but I mainly think about the worry. Most girls do just fine though. Vets are getting better and better at it, because more and more people have their girl buns spayed.

Girl rabbits can spray too, and they can hump. They have a very high sex-drive, so that’s not an exclusively male trait in bunnies.

                  Hi All!

Thought I’d leave an update. I’ve decided on a girl–a broken orange Get to pick her up really soon! Thanks for the advice. If anyone has any further thoughts for a new bunny owner, I’d love to hear them!

                  Thanks!

Yay! I’ve had two girls over the years, and my first was not into cuddling at all, but my current does nothing BUT cuddle. Likewise, my first was great with the litter box, and my current marks anything and everything with pee (not spayed). And my first would hump everything, but my current doesn’t. My first was kind and regal, and my current plots which ways she can manipulate me to get more attention (HA!). All bunnies will be different, either male or female, but I’ve loved my two girls equally so much despite them being near polar opposites of each other, so I know you’ll love your new girl so much, you won’t regret it!
