        I need serious help.

For the past 2 hours I have been sat trying to get my new rabbit out of her cage. She is 8 weeks old and Iv had her for about a week now. She is fairly friendly, she knows her name and comes to my hand for food and for petting.

The cage I have for her is plastic all over apart from the top which has a metal door that i have to lift up to reach in and get her out but she wont let me. I can stroke her and such when she is inside the cage but as soon as i put my hands near her bum and front she runs off. Im scared that im stressing her out but i need to clean her cage out as its part of my routine.

Iv been trying for the past 2 hours and nothing is working and i feel like im going to cause her to hate me.

If you cant tell this is my first rabbit.

I’ve six buns and none of them like being picked up, most buns don’t.

The easiest way to clean out her cage is to let her make her own way somewhere else bunny safe, most buns enjoy the chance to stretch their legs if they usually live in a cage. Make sure there is nowhere tiny she can get stuck in, or where you can’t reach her, and no cables to chew on.

Otherwise, can you remove the whole top, and clean around her?

Or leave treats for her outside (like a little trail) so she makes her own way out…
            Or*
If she lets you pet her head, stroke her a few times then gently cover her eyes over with your hand before you go to pick up her body… if she’s still little you should be able to manage this with a whole hand without her bum hanging down (never let a bunny’s back end and back legs ‘hang’ without any support – they have VERY fragile spines which can break with the powerful kick that bunnies have.
Certainly don’t pick her up very high so if she does jkick you can put her down quickly

Good luck and keep us updated

Honestly, I don’t know why they make those cages with the door on the top. They are not practical for bunnies. Most don’t like to be picked up. Most prefer to exit their cage on their own. Could you perhaps make a NIC grid condo for her instead?
