I had read somewhere on line and I can’t find it again about using olive oil once a month a small dab rubbed in their ears helps them to not get ear mites? Im trying to find out if this is true or not?

Olive oil isn’t harmful. At least not that I know of. I have heard of using olive oil to treat ear mites. It has to be applied every day or every other day though. The idea behind it is the oil will suffocate the mites. Therefore, I don’t think applying oil once a month would be effective in preventing them. You’d have to apply it constantly and then you’d have a poor bunny with oily ears and fur. Plus olive oil is sometimes used as a natural laxative in rabbits.

I would just get Revolution from the vet. It’s safe and effective.

I second LPT. Revolution would be effective in preventing ear mites. Of course, if a bunny is kept inside and away from other bunnies, the likelihood of them simply getting ear mites is very low.

I’m going to give the olive oil a try. The two different vets that I take Lancelot to can’t seem to tell me what’s up with his ears, offer a treatment. Their standard response is “he has bigger things to worry about”. I have selamectin in tablet form, but I don’t have the liquid form. Olive oil it is.
