Charlie had his first visit to the vet today and surprise surprise, Charlie is a GIRL.

We were meeting to go over her neuter (now spay), and I wanted to get her nails clipped. Charlie was really bad at the vet – she was terrified, but tried to jump around when they were weighing her and was so stressed and trying to fly out of their arms that they couldn’t clip her nails. They said they will do her nails when she goes in to be spayed, but I’m just wondering if anyone else’s buns act like this? The vet was great with her, Charlie just doesn’t really love being held and I’m afraid for how the spay is going to go.

My rabbit Lilo is kinda like that, he would straight up attack the vet and no bunny burrito would keep him in there. I think your best bet with nails trimming is either try to bond with him so he’s more comfortable with you and let you hold him for even 30 seconds at a time. What I did with another rabbit was wait for him to be sleeping, and just very quietly sneak over and cut off a couple nails while they’re still lying down (once they’re comfortable enough in your house, it usually takes them two to three nails in to realize the evil things you’re doing and wake up to protest), this might take several days to get all four paws, but sometimes it’s the only way that works that’s not too stressful for them.

She does look super-cute with a pink bow, so she seems to be adapting well to being a girl =D

Many rabbits absolutely hate the vets. My Bam flies into my arms and tries to hide under my hair. I think it has a lot to do with the shiny slippery examination-table – it’s has that surface for reasons of hygiene, of course, but it makes bunnies really insecure when they can’t get a grip.

It’s good they’ll be doing her nails when she’s under, then you can see how short they should be and hopefully, you’ll be able to clip her nails yourself in the future – or rather, together with a friend/family-member, because it’s a lot easier if someone else holds the bun in his/her lap.
