So I am not sure if this would be considered an update because we are still working at this but Bo was taken to tufts emergency this past Tuesday because he could not stop rolling and after he was calmed down he could not get up. Just before all of this happened he as hopping around, eating , pooping, grooming etc.
At this time he was on Orbax once a day for 3 weeks, and It had been 6 days on orbax when this happened. When he first started the medication I saw his energy level come back up but around day 4-5 his balance seemed to be getting worse. It was the weekend so everyone was unavailable etc etc etc. Tuesday comes and we are at tufts emergency. They ended up keeping him until Thursday night; gave him sub cutaneous fluids and fed him with the syringe for the first morning and night. On the second day he was getting up again and eating hay. The doctor said we could do the titer for E.C if we wanted to but he was going to be treated for it anyways, cant prolong that and the titer takes a week to come back regardless. So our conclusions are either a bad middle ear infection and his first antibiotic just didn’t hit it hard enough so it got worse , or slight ear infection and possible E.C .
Present day he is on pancour (my spelling is most likely off) for 28 days for the E.C and TMZ/TMP (something like that) a more broad spectrum antibiotic every 12 hours for 2 more weeks. His head tilt is still present but he straightens it completely if he wants to or if it is easier to get at something( I don’t know if this is a good sign or just something normal and the head tilt will still remain) the main problem with the head tilt right now is his balance. For example when hes trying to sleep his head will go to the side and when he wakes up he has to roll to get himself “right” again, same goes for when hes grooming and has his head completely upside down cleaning the bottom of his feet (some situations he does to himself lol ) I have his cage padded but it still makes me nervous even going to bed at night.
Just tonight he has been sitting with his neck straighter than earlier today. I understand head tilt is different for every case but I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. Did it resolve or not? gradually or just one day it was completely gone? Is there anything more I can do to help him adjust to head tilt and help him from rolling ?
off of the head tilt: he seems to be eating more “night feces” throughout the day than I’ve noticed before(or I could be noticing because I’ve been watching him more closely) he is only 10 months old. normal, no?
He has basically disregarded his pellets and is eating hay constantly, I am accounting this to his poop being lighter is color? its still normal shape and consistency it has also been, maybe a little softer but nothing drastic, just light brown instead of dark dark brown.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
