Sooo while snuggling Ellie today I noticed that the hair around the top of her head was all tufts and weird so I pulled it like you would to deshed a dog and now she has a huge bald spot!! Is this normal? I honestly didn’t pull the hair, it was already loose. Poor baby has a reverse Mohawk going on lol. Could she be molting? And is it possible for her fur to be changing from black Tort (light brown fur) to dark grey/black BC her dark points are getting significantly darker..

Sounds like molting. And yes, tort colors can darken over time.

From the picture it looks like she is an example of point restriction genetics, which simply means that the hair color is determined by temperature. Her nose, ears, and feet are cooler, so darker. Has it been cooler there recently? Because if so, I think that’s your explanation.

Okay I was pretty panicked that she’s got bald sports that are in a weird place. Yes it’s been -40C here this week so maybe that’s why. But she’s inside 24/7 and is in room temp so would that make a difference?

Wow, that is cold. Is your indoor thermostat lower during the winter? Or maybe a draft is hitting her when the door opens? If not, it might be worth getting her checked by a vet for fur mites or a different issue.

How old is she? Could she possibly be getting her adult coat in?

Ellie was just at the vet last week to check for progress with the treatment for her snuffles. My thermostat sits at about 71F during the winter. Ellie was born in late September I think (vet seems to think so as well) so I feel like she’s still a bit young to have her adult coat come in?? She’s been on antibiotics for almost 2 months now to manage her Pasteurella symptoms.
