        hi gang.

noticed an odd thing the other night.  one of our buns was resting on the (wood) floor the other night, just chilling to the tv set….we heard some wheezing…and thought it was our sick bunny (we have one guy suffering from head tilt and e.c….the other guy’s healthy)…but upon closer inspection, realized the wheezing was coming from the healthy kid.  it’s VERY faint, barely audible, but it only happens when he’s sitting on the floor, chilling.  as soon as we near him to listen closer, he gets up and the sound is gone.

should we be worried?  we’ve never noticed it before….but our little guy has always had a clean bill of health.

Sounds like a little snore. Some bunnies do that when they are falling asleep (note: Rabbits can sleep with their eyes open). When I would be volunteering at the shelter, I would hear this sometimes from certain perfectly healthy bunnies. The only thing is – if this is new, then you you may want to keep eye on it to make sure it’s not a result of some respiratory infection.

Also, does this happen the moment he sits and chills, or is it after a few minutes – if so, he could be falling asleep, then the “snoring” commences.

i agree with BB, it might be nothing, just a little snore or sigh noise… but since you do have a bun battling EC, i would def. keep a closer eye on this to see if it progresses into anything more serious. i’m guessing from your avatar pic that they are bonded, so just be aware of any signs of illness in your healthy bun…

thanks guys. we’re definitely keeping our eyes (and ears) open…to make sure he’s not infected as well

the avatar’s old…back when they were kids and still hug things out.

Thats exactly as i would describe Henry when he is snoring. It sounds abit like a wheezy/whistly sound and he only does it when he is resting and very relaxed. As soon as we get up to go closer it stops too! But you would be right to keep an eye anyway… no harm in that

Coco snores – just like that. I was worried at first, but having listened to it for eight months now, I can say for sure that it is a snore.

And she does it – as BB said – with her eyes open.

                      Hiya!

Thanks hophohop for posting – my bun does this too! I was wondering what it was. I was afraid he had over exerted himself after running around or something, but the whole snoring thing makes sense.

ps your avatar is so cute! I hope to have a bonded pair someday too!

Totally agree; Also they sometimes murmur to themselves-they actually make all kinds of noises; The important thing is to notice changes in behavior-is it a chnage or is it you just noticing? (Hard to tell of course) and is it all the time or only during certain activities? Sounds like this is snoring?

Is it after he has been running around? I have a bunny who will run around until she has worn herself out completely and then will flop on the floor and breathe pretty heavily for awhile, and when she does that her breathing makes a noise. Other than that, my bunnies also snore and it sounds very similar

he never made that sound that often before; now we notice it every day for two weeks now. just wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything health related. he’s his usual self otherwise; energetic, feisty, and eager to please. and he doesn’t exhibit anything unusual….wet nose, slanting, sluggishness, etc.

so you guys think he’s just developed a later-in-life snoring habit, huh?
