        I am a fosterer of a small rabbit rescue in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Here is our site, http://earthrabbitrescue.blogspot.com/ and here is our main rescue, http://earthservices.org

        Any help or suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks,

        Dave

              Well, we are having issues finding fosterers and wondered if anyone on the forum had success finding foster homes for rabbits.  We don’t have a central facility since we are foster based. Does anyone have a recommendation for finding fosterers?

              I have been reading the HRS site about how to advertise the rabbits, but it is fairly obvious so far that certain rabbits are more adoptable then others. Do you have any recommendations on opening people’s eyes to different rabbit personalities outside of looks?  Also does anyone have any recommedations on adopting out bonded pairs?

              Another issue we have is with neutering and spaying.  We don’t have the money or a vet to do this economically.  I would assume it is easier to adopt out altered rabbits then non-altered.  Does anyone have any recommedations on approaching a vet or getting the funds to pay for spay/neutering?

              Thanks for all your help.

                Hope I can help!!

                I posted ads looking for foster homes as well as on our site. It’s really a sweet deal, so we’ve had a lot of interest so far. We started our rescue in August and now have five foster homes, so I think that’s great.

                My ad’s or speil is like this;

                Fostering for us does not cost you any money. We provide you with everything you need. If you have supplies or can purchase your own food/cages/toys that’s really appreciated-but we will provide what you need. You can foster for as long or as short as you like. And it’s always up to you. If you have to go out of town there is no need to find a pet sitter, as we’ll just take the rabbit back during your trip.
                Basically it works like this: You apply to become an approved foster home, once approved we contact you with a rabbit who needs a foster home. It’s up to you at that point if you can take the rabbit. If your lifestyle changes and you can no longer foster, no worries-we take the rabbit back.
                As a bonus, you get first pick on adopting (ie. if someone is interested in adopting the rabbit your fostering, you can decide to adopt him yourself) You also get a discount on the adoption fee.

                Sum it up like this; It’s basically a free rabbit with no commitment. It’s great for young people who can’t commit to a pet for 8-12 years and for those who have too many and can’t keep another but want to help.

                For vet fees. I’d write a letter or call around, depending on how comfortable you are with that. Tell them you have a rabbit rescue and would like to find a regular vet for the rabbits there. Would they be interested in doing that, (in turn being recommneded by your rescue, maybe a link on the website) and would they be able to offer payment plans or discounts.
