I was just wondering if rosemary was ok for rabbits to eat? I was too lazy to search it up

rosemary is safe. i’m not sure if you’d want to give a lot like cilantro or parsley, but i think a few sprigs are nice as a special treat.

Yep it is O.K. and Beka is right, just a little bit here and there.

I give the leftover sprigs to mine a bit at a time as a treat. They don’t seem thrilled with it, but Robbie’ll eat anything, so at least it’s not totally going to waste.

Now mint…if you have some of THAT leftover, that’s the good stuff! Mine ADORE mint!

Anyone know anything about thyme? I always have thyme leftover… (Not “time”, I have NONE of that!)

i have an overfull rosemary bush in my garden and Checkers gets some of that at times and loves it.  i don’t give more than about 6″ at a time, but she eats everything, woody parts included, and has been none the worse for wear.  i dearly wish i had parsley this year, but i had a bad knee injury and surgery and wasn’t able to do any kneeling to tend the garden, so the only thing left over was the rosemary.

i also have a small animal Kong toy that i’ve plugged the small end of with duct tape (she doesn’t chew it, thankfully), and i’ve stuffed it with various things.  Typically i put a little juice/water mix in with an apple slice and freeze it, but sometimes i steep rosemary in boiling water and use that for the frozen part (after freezing obviously) with some fruit or other herbs in the Kong.

So funny how they all have such different taste! Hammer will not even consider rosemary. But mint.. that he absolutely loves!

Liz – Frankie’s the total opposite of that! Before I killed my rosemary (oops) he LOVED it! The only thing bad about giving them rosemary in my opinion is that it smells so darn good! I constantly sniff my fingers after I pick it… it smells like fancy Italian bread! Hahaha.

I’m curious…does anyone here have bunnies that WILL NOT eat herbs? I mean, mine turn their noses up at everything…they won’t even eat mint!

They sure enjoy that bag of dried dandelion I got from the UK though. I’m going to be in dutch when I run out of that.

Mine do not eat mint either! They do really like basil and oregano though, the fresh stuff

                            Mine love parsley, cilantro, mint…

haven’t tried any other herbs I don’t think…oh maybe we got oregano or basil once?

I’ll have to check out some rosemary though….maybe they’d like that.  If not I sure do! LOL

Cotton won’t touch mint or dandeloin.   I haven’t tried Ruby on this yet.  I have some mint growing outside.  Honey Bunny he eats anything. So I am sure he would like mint and dandeloin and rosemary

Oh so you have thyme but not time Light chick hehehe.  Cute. I use thyme for lamb is good with mustard too.

Does anyone remember this 60’s or 70’s song      Parsley sage rosemary and thyme.

Also why do these songs pop into my head when I come here.  That dumb Laverne and Shirley song got stuck the other day I could have screamed. I hate that song ahahaa.

if you’re unsure if your bun will like something, you might “borrow” a sprig or two if a friend or family member uses it for cooking. my family regularly buys fresh herbs, so it’s not uncommon for me to take home a small baggie with what they have leftover. once you know they like something, you can feel more confident in buying it yourself…

Oreo will eat pretty much anything, he might not when I first put it in but when i go to work and come home it is all gone lol

Mimz, you’re not alone there. My two hate mint, rosemary and thyme but they will eat lavender. LOL Silly rabbits.

Lightchick – I hear you there with the time issue! Pungent herbs are O.K. in small amounts as the oils may upset a sensitive rabbit GI system. However peppermint helps to soothe it.

Ah well, then I shall relax on that account. ^_^ I do wish they’d prefer SOMETHING to a slice of carrot or apple. Although I just found out today that Fiver does NOT like banana, something the other two eat with a ravenous joy. The only grievance I have against the dried dandelion is that their litter boxes are more pungent when I have fed it to them. It must have something in it that affects the smell of their eliminations…kind of like asparagus does with people! lolz….

But a sprinkling of dandelion over their hay gets them to eat more, which I like.

Puck loves herbs, including rosemary. Ditto chillis.

But hay? No thank you. He HATES hay and won’t even wee on it! He just pushes it away.

I’ve never known a bunny not like hay.

Did you also know you can make a rosemary infusion and pour it on the fur to repel fleas? I’m going to try it on Puck since the little beasties seem to be resistant to everything else!

Of course, this only works if your rabbit likes water, which Puck does. He loves a bath or a swim. Even likes paddling in the sea.

                                        He just rolls that way!
