Some of you might remember my first posts on Binkybunny regarding the little girl bun my fiancee and I rescued back in December.  For those of you who don’t, here’s a quick version of her story.  We had seen this bun in our yard a few times in the days before and tried unsuccessfully to catch her, as we live on a very busy street and she would have for sure been hit by a car.  Finally, one day we got lucky and caught her – neither of us had any experience with bunnies but we familiarized ourselves with rabbit care and became her foster parents.  We found out later that she had been “let go” into the “wild” (ie, city!) by our next door neighbor, who told me he’d rather see her eaten by a hawk or an alligator.

Two weeks later she had 4 (yes, FOUR) bunny babies – one girl and two boys.  We made them a house in our house and they became our little foster bunny family.  All of the buns are either spayed or neutered, they are all potty trained and all incredibly sweet and love affection.  It is time for these buns to have homes of their own – some are already bonded pairs and obviously we’d like to keep it that way.  I’ve attached pictures and I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me with regard to placing the buns.  I want to do home-checks and also charge an adoption fee that I’ll gladly pass on to a rescue.  Also I’d like to have the option to take the buns back if for some reason I feel the adoption isn’t working out.

Thanks for your attention and enjoy the pics!  The buns are:  Daphne (mommy), Bridget, Timmy, Rupert & Colin.

Oh, they are beautiful, and you have done an incredible job getting them ready for adoption. It is obvious you really care about them. Out of curiosity, w hat in the world did you say to your neighbor when he told you why he let the rabbit go in the first place and does he know you now have them and have taken such great care of them?

I know there are few here that can advise you on adopting out and you could also call your local rabbit rescue or shelter (like http://www.orlandorabbit.org/) and ask them to email you a copy adoption contract. You can use it as a reference of how you may make one – change it and make it your own.

I also found a copy of an adoption contract online that has some of the things you talked built in:  http://www.tucson-rabbits.com/files/adoption-contract-sample.pdf

          Keep us updated!

Are there any local rabbit rescues you can contact? Sometimes they will post pictures of them on their website in an effort to help rehome them so long as you agree to foster them until homes are found. THis way, you can use their adoption contract and donate the money to them as well.

Here’s a question…who’s the daddy? Seeing as domestic rabbits cannot mate with wild rabbits, she would have to have encountered another domestic at some point – how long was she out there? Did the neighbour have two rabbits he abandoned? Keep you eyes open for another….

Congrats for being such wonderful and caring people! Just imagine if she had those babies out in the “wild”…

I will try the local rescues, thanks!

As for the Daddy, we think it was one of the other three he “let go” and we saw one of them many times, but were unable to catch it. Sadly, we haven’t seen him/her in quite a while. It is just a tragic situation all around, but at least some of the buns made it.

When I confronted the guy, I was fuming but didn’t want him to retaliate to my anger (we have two little doggies, too), so I kept a lid on my temper. I did call Animal Control on them but I’m not sure if anything was done. We ran into the wife/mom and told her we have the bunny and its babies, and she mentioned that one of the other buns they had gave birth but all of the babies died. Well, no wonder, as they were keeping them outside! They still have a hutch out there and I check pretty often to make sure they’re not torturing another rabbit. These people don’t deserve ANY animals.

On a side note, I do believe in karma. And just about 3 weeks ago, the dad/husband/aka Rabbit Killer had a very major stroke. Now, I’m not a mean person… but…. I did take a little bit of comfort knowing that God looks out for these little creatures.

Thanks for all the info – keep it coming! 😉

I’ve posted the buns on Petfinder, but all I’m getting are wierd emails from people who want them to be shipped, etc. I think they’re scams and I’m not sure I’ll use Petfinder anymore. And craigslist.org freaks me out, too. I know there are alot of bad people on there. I’ll work on the rescue/foster approach.

              Thanks again!

Yes, those emails are all scams so stay away – report them to Petfinder as well.

I remember doing a bunny round-up that really broke my heart. There was a mentally-unstable man who had about 50 rabbits in his backyard. Neighbours reported him to the SPCA and they paid him a visit. After they left, he packed up as many rabbits as he could, took them to a nearby lake and drowned them. Of course, not being successful in moving all of the rabbits, about a dozen were left wandering the streets and a bunch of us went out to help catch them all.

This horrible man taunted us the entire time, threatened to pull out his gun and shoot the neighbours dog – the neighbours rallied around those of us who came out to help. The police and SPCA were called out. They found dead rabbits in his yard. And one of the rabbits we caught had his ears cut off. This man was unbelievable. I will never forget holding that poor bunny in my arms as my husband drove us to the clinic where he had emergency surgery. The good news is that he fully recovered and was adopted by the lady who helped save him that day. His name is Hawthorne.

I have no idea what happened to that man, but I would like to believe that Karma has paid him a few visits….

Wow. What a sad story… it is amazing to me that there are people out there who can be so cruel!

Well, not much luck on the Petfinder front. As I mentioned – I’ve only received the “wierd” emails….. and yes, I will report them- thanks for the suggestion!

I contacted Orlando Rabbit Rescue and they said to do the Petfinder thing, too. Sooooo I asked her if they’d consider putting pics of the buns on their website. We’ll see what she says . Crossing my fingers!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far – I’m always open to others! I just want these babies to have a great opportunity for a loving, “furrrr”ever home! 😉

Rabbitsmba – oh what a terrible sight that must have been. I am so sorry you had to deal with that, and I am so sorry for all those rabbits! People never cease to amaze me. But then again, the good in people never ceases to amaze me either. It’s good to know that there are wonderful people out there like you all.
