Anyone need a new boy bunny?

Hi,

My fiancée and I got out bunny buttercup a friend. They don’t seem to be getting along. Probably because Buttercup has had full reign of the house for the last several months and now she smells another bun. This little guy was rescued by us at a small animal shelter in Wisconsin. We are near Green Bay, WI and would like to see him off to another home. We would give you his cage, water bottle, hay bin, all the stuff you would need. Plus, we had him into the vet yesterday for his after adoption check-up and he is very healthy, and the local vet said he would give 20% off of the neutering. He is a mini rex. I have some pictures here of him. He is the most chilled out bunny you will ever meet. My fiancée put him to sleep by petting him last night.

Wow.  It does take some time to bond. For some it’s quick and others it takes months.  Are you sure you can’t give it more time?  That bunny is so adorable. I certainly hope he finds a wonderful home that will take the time to settle him in.

Aaww what a shame … he is very handsome … I would not just give him away though … perhaps charge at least something … bunny could be a target for a meal in some peoples’ minds.

You do need to give this more time. This takes a huge commitment on your part.

First of all you need to get him neutered so they can be bonded. Is your female spayed?

like they said, you cannot expect two bunnies to bond instantly, esp. not before they are both neuter/spayed and healed. it might take a matter of weeks or months, but it is possible to bond them. please let us know if you need more info about the process. both bunnies would be happier in the long run having a mate.

Oh – i agree, please give it more time. Hope it doesn’t sound like i’m getting on your case but with time you could get what you intended. I could not part with that beautiful boy and that little heart shape face!!! Sweeeet! Of course, if I was living in Wisconsin I’d offer to take him and the two could bunny date but I couldn’t guarantee i’d hand him back when you were ready!

Did you check out the bonding info here on BinkyBunny? Please give it a read. Bunnies need to be introduced slowly and patiently, not just throw together – this only guarantees bunny fights. Make sure you have a clear understanding of how bunny bonding goes and give it another try.

Also, if you are set on rehoming him, check with the shelter you got him from – if you signed a contract, you may be obligated to return him there and not rehome him yourself.

I think after further bunny dates, we are going to keep the little guy. We have an appointment set up for him to be neutered in the 10th. Buttercup and him have been seeing eachother a lot. He is in his cage and she roams free becasue she is spayed and house broken. They seem to be sniffing each other a lot and sharing his hay (the hay that falls out of his cage). I am excited that they are not fighting.

there is a bonding section on binkybunny too, so feel free to start a thread over there and give us updates on how it goes. we’ve all been thru it before when bonding bunnies. it’s very uncommon for them to get along from the beginning. i got my new boy in june and it took a full 3 weeks, at least one hour a day for them to bond. but it was time well spent. they adore each other now and it’s very heart-warming to see them snuggled up together. my girl was (is!) a queen diva bunny, so if she can bond, so can yours! i’m so happy you’re going to stick with it. once he’s neutered, wait at least 3-4 weeks for him to heal and for hormones to dissipate before you start with actual sessions.

Aw, so glad to hear you are going to give it another go. I am sure it will be well worth the time and effort you put into it.

Good on you! What kind of bun is Buttercup? The boy(name?) looks like a Siamese or Sable Point. And as MM said – more details about them both please! My I’m getting bossy – I have only 1 bunny so I try get a bunny fix here at BinkyBunny! I may state the obvious here but:- you’ll find bonding info on pull down menu of Bunny Info on green banner at top of page. And bonding section under forum to discuss the process. As the others have mentioned!

This wasn’t the bunny you had planned to ‘date’ Buttercup with? Or was it? I was just curious, because one of our members pointed out to me recently that when a bun first gets together with another, they can ‘seem’ to get along and then the reality hits them that they are to be housed together and then there is often some adjustment. Over time, this can grow into a mutually beneficial relationship.

Just hope to be able to assist in your bunny bonding process.
