ok, I blong to a few forums and one thing I hate is when people post a quaetion that was just answered. I have looked through the postings and found nothing significant about bunnies health and shedding.

Whenever my bun is being held, I put her down and my shirt is covered in bunny fur, along with all my electronic screens

Does anyone know what to make of this?

        -Casey

Bunnies go through a molts about four times a year. Twice is considered heavy while the other two are supposed to be lighter.

Now with that said. I really only notice my bunnies shedding no more than three times a year, and one time is heavy while the other two are light.

Some bunnies go through what I call the “Explosion” molt, and shed everything within a few days – week. While others can shed heavy but gradually, over a few weeks time. My bunny, Jack, does that and it can be irritating because his fur just comes off on everything. I bet that’s what is happening with yours.

It will help if you brush her. It will get less fur flying around and more importantly, it will keep her from swallowing too much of it since she can’t spit or throw it up. Watch for poops that look like a string of pearls to know if she’s swallowed some. She’ll need a bit of aide to her digestion if that’s the case. You can give her papaya tablets now as treats just to keep her system regular, along with unlimited hay daily.

You can also moisten your hands and smooth them over her body. This will pull up loose fur onto your hands and keep the surface shed from flying around as much. Of course you’ll look like a teenage werewolf, but you can wash it off.

You can search here for “brush” to possibly find earlier posts with recommendations on which to get.

                  Hi

I need some advice. I got a rabbit who is going to be one tomorrow.

Ive just been in her hutch and its all covered in fur, from the sawdust to the bedding area. its taken a bag full. Ive never seen this happen to my previous rabbit this much before. is it normal or should I be worried?

                  many thanks

                  Skyla

Hi Skyla, welcome – this thread is very old – we ask members not to pull up threads and reply to them if they are over 1 month old.

To answer your question, some rabbits do shed more than others.

Please feel free to start a new thread if you have further questions as I am going to lock this thread.
