So the plan is to take my two girls to a shelter and find them husbunnies. Carrera is very independant and head strong. Pookie is very shy and kinda skittish.

I went to our local humane society yesterday. They apparently aren’t really prepared to take rabbits but have 5 that came in last week. I wanted to come in and socialize with them. I brought food, hay and a bunch of treats and toys.  I was there 3hrs and only played with three. The other two i felt bad cause they just looked so depressed..But I did rate about 10 binkies between the 3 rabbits so hopefully I made their day.

Anyways, one holland lop boy was just dying to come out -i was kinda afraid he just wanted to escape. As soon as i let him out he flew into my arms. I took him into a small bonding room (all they have) and he was instantly smitten with me. Besides trying to mate with me (lol) he continued to circle me over and over. And then he turned me into his own personal toy. Hopping in and out and over my arms and  legs. He would get tired and lay on my leg and stick his head in the crook of my arm and rest. And then go again as fast as he could.

I am completely in love. He is exactly what I would want  in another rabbit. But do i take a chance and get him and be unable to bond him or do i wait and let the girls pick out their own buns?

Dating is not an option at this place. You can tell the rabbits are second hand citizens. Kinda upset me. They wont fix them but do have a place to refer you. All caged up sitting in the lobby completely ignored. Staff told me no one ever comes and sees them and they never get adopted out. You wouldn’t even know the place had rabbits except there is food on their wish list and one rabbit listed on petfinder.com.

        Suggestions?

Yeesh, that is a hard one.  Bonding works or doesn’t work and there is not much you can do about it.  If the buns hate each other, there will be war, and that is that.  If you take him home, you’ll fall in love with him, and then maybe have three separate buns if the girls do not like him.  Is that an option?  They won’t let you bring your bun into the play area you talked about?  Obviously these guys do not know rabbits.

Oh, and the circling, and jumping up on you, and that "other "stuff"….He’s in love too.  Does anyone know if buns are easier to bond after neutering?

Are your 2 girls bonded? If so, (correct me if I am wrong) but maybe it would be easier to introduce 1 rabbit at a time. First, get a stable trio, then try adding a fourth for the herd. Unless you are going to separate the 2 male/female pairs and they will live separately. If they all live together and you bring home 2 boys wars could start multiple ways.

They know nothing about rabbits and thats what worries me. On the phone the day before the girl went on and on about how lonely the bunnies are and then when I get there they made a big deal about not having gone thru volunteer orientation. But they let it slide and I got to play with them anyways. The rabbits had cat liter in their boxes and torn up newspaper for their beds. No toys. (well, now they have toys)

I absolutely adore this boy. And of course he isnt neutered. My Carrera will not tolerate Pookie and you can tell Pookie wants to be her freind. Carrera will let Pookie groom her face thru the cage but that is all. Pookie really needs another bunny friend.

Since we already have two buns that we let out seperately we would be fine with another if thats what we had to do. I just would feel bad that one of the girls may not get the boy of their dreams. But part of me thinks Carrera will never want a boy cause shes headstrong.

But I do have a question. I came home and took a shower, threw my clothes in the hamper because I didnt want to upset my girls. But I forgot about my shoes!!! Carrera was quite interested in my shoes. She would go sniff on them and then come over to me and want to be petted.

Is this a good sign? Maybe she might like what she smelled?? Maybe she was interested in the boy? He was the last one I played with (the one I adore).

We intended to let the girls pick our their boys. We figured two buns at once would be too much so we figured we would give a set time to settle down before getting the other a boyfreind as well. We hoped that the boy/girl pairs could live together.

Buns have an amazing sense of smell, particularly about other rabbits.  I guess it comes from living underground and needing to know who your friends and enemies are.  If those other buns marked your shoes, she knows it.  She can tell it was a boy also.  I think her interest is probably a good sign that she wants a friend.

The reverse is true, too.  When we have our bunny adoption shows, I handle anywhere from 10 to 15 different rabbits during the course of an afternoon.  If I do not shower when I get home, DJ (our boy bunny) will growl and lunge at me because I smell like another boy.  If she disapproved of his scent, you’d know it.

Have you considered BinkyBunny’s body double trick?  Take a stuffed animal toy to the shelter, let the boy you like groom and mark it, then take it home and let your girls smell it and see what kind of reaction you get from them?

The double would be a great idea! He never did pee or poo while I was with him but he did give my shoes a good chin rub. lol

However, I made the horrible mistake of not cleaning the poo and pee from the first bun-female-and then i brought a boy in and he was doing the spray thing where they swing their butt out and spray. Never seen that before! lol But he didnt get me. But I couldnt sit in the floor with him after that.

I didnt really clean all of it up until I had my little friend with me-i used yucky smelly wipeups they gave me. He did smell the poo and pee though before I cleaned it up and never offered to spray.

Carrera was so loving every time after she sniffed my shoe (she went back to my shoe about 4 times). She has been very distant for months since her surgery. Shes not my lap bunny anymore so for her to get on the couch with me and lick my pillow while being petted was a big deal to me.

There is hope! Yeah! Im pretty sure they put down the animals that dont get adopted so I know that if I dont get him I will lose him. And i think he was the sweetest bun I have ever met!

All I have done since yesterday is tell my husband how much I loved him. The deal is no husbunnies until i start working again. I have been off work since Dec d/t chronic migraines. Trying to find something part time right now and havent found anything yet. I am hoping he will understand the situation and let me get him anyways if things work out.

Hi!  I have been very interested in learning how to bond and have talked to many people about it, and quite often I hear "its not a matter of IF the bonding will work, its a matter of how long it will take" so I think that if you are really in love with the little guy, I think you would have the patience to make through even a difficult bonding…also, in the scheme of things, a girl guy bond is the easiest! Good thing u didn’t fall in love w a GIRL

My husband said I can have him!

I am sooo excited! His house is already built. We plan to give him some time to himself, get him fixed and if bonding goes well he can move in with one of the girls.

The shelter opens at noon and I will be standing there waiting! lol

He is home! I went and got him as soon as they opened today. He is just adorable and so sweet. I can carry him around and he is fine!

Im attaching a pic. I know he is a lop but anyone know what kind? Hes probably about 6lb, hes larger than my 5lb minirex.

Hes quite smitten with the girls. Just so excited to see them. lol

He got tired of chasing the girls-he was out and they were in their cages. So he plopped down in his lettuce. lol

I figured he was a mini lip since the hollands are a few lbs less than the minis.

Yeah! I finally have a loppy bunny

                                        Hi Hedi,

Congratulations!!!  He is adorable!!!  He looks like  mini-lop and his size seems to fit that as well.

So the girls can have playtime out together, they don’t fight? EDIT:  OOOOOOP, I misread your post.  I for some reason thought I read they they were out while he was out.  I’ve gone goggly eyed.

Well, I bet he is in love with the girls.  He’s not neutered, so he is going to be VERY interested!! I can’t remember, but their spayed?

Since you’ve seen him spray, just watch for that, as he may spray more as he gets comfortable and begins to mark the place as his soon.

Yep, both girls have been fixed for awhile.

He sprayed me yesterday morning when I went to give him food. I was not happy! lol

But he definitely has his eye on Carrera. He watches her very closely when she is in their bedroom. I just hope after he is fixed she will make bonding easy on me.

aww…I’m so jealous! I really want to get a second bunny (although I figure Felony is a spoiled only child and wouldn’t take kindly to a sibling) but I just don’t have the room, money or time for a second hellcat. I hope all goes well with the bonding! He’s a cutie and I can totally see why you fell in love with him!!
