Ok, so I know iceberg lettuce is not good for bunnies, but is butter lettuce the same thing?  I couldn’t find any mention of it (good or bad) on the Veggie List.

I just bought Cadbury a new bag of mixed greens, not realizing that it had butter lettuce in it.  Since I wasn’t sure if it was ok, I hand picked it all out.  (What we do for our buns!)

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Thanks!

Butter lettuce I also beleive is called “Boston Bibb” and is O.K. for your bunny and has more nutrition than iceberg.

I also wanted to add that generally speaking, the darker green the lettuce, the better for your rabbit.

I am tired of living in fear of giving my rabbit something bad..I returned three heads of lettuce probably perfectly good. I LOVE MY RABBIT SO MUCH BUT THE FEAR OF HUTTING HER MAKES sometimes not want to research things..are they that fragile?

It’s unlikely that she’ll be hurt by veggies. Iceberg lettuce is not recommended, but all loose leaf lettuces and curly lettuce etc are fine. Obviously don’t give anything that’s rotten. Rinse well. When you start your bun on a veg she’s never had before, start with a little bit and keep an eye on her poop.

Stuff that can hurt a bun is f ex larger quantities of fruit (carrot have to count as a fruit because it has lots of sugar), seeds, nuts, dried maize (corn), muesli-typ bunny food, yoghurt drops and candy for humans.

My rabbit had both of his incisors removed due to malocclusion, so I started using butter lettuce. I have to chop everything into super tiny pieces for him to eat, and the bagged butter lettuce was so much easier to cut than romaine because of its lack of a rib. He has been fine on that and we’ve been using it for close to a year now!
