Ferdinand conducted a massive attack on my fabric ottoman bench last night - ripped into the center, ate the fabric and dug out the foam filling. Both my bunnies are normally very well behaved and have never attacked furniture before in the year I've had them. They have lots of toys and the run of my living and dining room. The only change I have made is a reduction in the amount of Timothy pellets (this was two days ago), as the vet said he's a little overweight. His wife Belle has also been having some extra attention as she's on antibiotics and ear drops, so I am wondering if these two factors (hunger and feeling left out) mean he's more liable to destruction tendencies.  Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi! I haven't had that in particular happen before, but I do know that when my bunnies finda loose thread or any little thing they can pull at, its all over!  They have destroyed many a carpet due to one loose thred that turned into them pulling the thread..that turned into more loose threads...that turned into them pulling up the whole carpet.  Maybe there was a loose piece of cloth on the ottoman? If so he might have started chewing, then digging!

I agree with MooBunny. Might not have been an agression attack per se, and more like a very passionate project.... Sophie gets like this sometimes, especially with a loose thread from a throw pillow or carpet thread. she is very focused in "fixing it" her way, which is tearing it apart if you ask me!

Well, it is odd as the surface (as far as I remember), was smooth - if he'd attacked a button I would have understood. He made a second attack yesterday and I have since moved the ottoman to a different part of the room (and worked from home) and it went unscathed today. Regardless, I'll be buying a wooden coffee table to replace it!

Interesting!  I have never had a bunny all of sudden become destructive.    Usually they come with destructive tendencies -        But the fact that he has never done this before definitely signals some recent changes, and since you have named them, it makes sense that he may be "foraging" for more food via your ottoman.  

You might try offering a small handfuls of hay throughout the day. I don't know what it is about offering a new handful of hay that makes them eat more of it. (even when they already have tons of hay in their rack).
