I think my boy is having litterbox anxiety issues!
Our last batch of Carefresh was weird, so we decided to give Yesterday's News a try. Well, Viktor has been on a digging rampage every since. Since he has access to three different litterboxes, he's been making a ROYAL mess. I figured it was the new litter, so ran out for some Carefresh.
Well, guess what? He's *still* a digging fool! We think he might be planning to tunnel to China since he's even been digging at the floor of his NIC cube. I'm not sure WHAT is going on with him. If he's in some sort of emotional turmoil or something?
Also, he's a bunny who loves to be pet, snuggled - but has been RUNNING away from me! Maybe it's because we keep yelling at him for making a mess lol
Last night he even pulled their huge litterbox out the front door of their NIC cottage! His girlfriend. Pandora is a very fastidious neat freak. She actually does a binky ballet after you change her house or clean. She seems surprisingly calm about it though.
I guess we need to build him a digging box. i thought about getting a box with a top, but he'd likely just toss everything out the hole.

How does one build a digging box? I'd like to make one for my buns....My little boy is the same way, but its not weird behavior for him, he like to take his huge litterbox for a walk about once a day...and then dig a hold in his rug..and then dig a hold through his rug so big he digs through my carpet...fortunately, I live above my garage, so if he gets through the floor, he's not going to China, just bunny heaven (all my bales of hay are in the garage!) |

Poopy - my guess is with a covered litterbox he'd just kick everything out the hole! I am going to try a sifter box (without the sifter) since it's so deep that it helps contain the mess
lol MooBunnay about bunny heaven. a digging box is just a deep box filled with stuff to dig in like shredded paper and hay, or whatever else you can think of! the idea is to make it deep enough so that stuff doesn't go flying out! |

Ok, so you're going to laugh about Sophie's digging box. It's a long, old, deep trunk that I bought at a garage sale. It's high enough that she can't jump out. I shred everything in my shredder and dump all the paper shreddings into the diggin box. I will just plop her in there for about a half hour when I first get home about 4 nights out of the week and for that half hour she digs away, lies down and rests, and then digs more. It's great because she's contained, but it's about 2 feet down so she buries herself amongst all my bills, credit card offers and other shredded mess!
Love Yesterday's News by the way. it's the only litter Sophie knows.
Is Viktor neutered?!? Could this be extra energy from some "growing pains"? |

I have a mini lop named Peanut and she's quite the digger! After about 2 weeks of her making a total mess of the kitchen floor i taped cardboard around her cage so now she can dig to her little hearts content and i don't have a mess to clean up anymore!! |

dmh - what a great idea for the box. Viktor's neutered, he's just being a brat! luckily this week he's been behaving and is over making a huge litter box disaster. |

Noble is a digger. I recently bought a litterbox with a top attached, it makes the sides of the litter box twice as high. the top has a large opening for him to jump into, but it is much higher than a regular litter box, he can dig as much as he wants, and the litter doesn't fly out on the floor. He hit his hind paws jumping in and out the first couple of weeks, (he has short legs), but I think he knows to jump higher now. |

the covered litter box i have has a cat door so that helps stuff from being pushed out |

So you have to show a picture of THAT! That's just awesome. |
