Hello Everyone

I am wondering whether anyone else has experienced this sydrome with their bunny?  My 13 month old dwarf lop recently passed away from flopsy bunny.  She (Lily) had another experience with it mid last year, but she recovered within the day I took her to the vet.  This time unfortunately she did not.

I am still beside myself why this happened ... I certainly did the right thing by taking her immediately to the vet.  I had extensive talks to my vet and she indicated that sometimes there is no reason for it, but generally it could be related to a lack of vitamin E in their diet, stress or something happening outside the bunny's normal routine.  None of these issues seem to fit the reason for Lily's passing.

I would like to share your experience if you have had to go through this yourself with your bunny?

I'm so sorry to hear about Lily, how sad. I actually have never heard of Flopsy syndrome and looked online and was only able to find one article about the syndrome. I am guessing it's fairly rare, since there's so little information about it.  It sounds fairly different from the hind paw paralysis that effects some bunnies.

I am not familiar with this website, so can't say for sure how accurate the information is -  but it may be of help for people to learn a little more about flopsy syndrome.

It is so terribly sad to lose a bunny, but it really does sound like you did all you could for Lily.

I heard about this before....my ex was/is a vet nurse.  I thought that it was related to a vitamin deficiency?  Check out the avma website.  You can actually send vet questions to them and they will provide you info.  I don't remember who/what the email address is to send questions.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lily. I can't imagine my life without Sophie in it. In times like this, all you can do is remember the happiness she brought you and you to her. Lily had a good life and you must remember that. Not all bunnies do...

Oh my Dawn!!!  I am so sorry.  I remember when you got her.      I know you must be just heartbroken. 

I have never heard of flopsy syndrome and will be researching and asking vets & experts about it to get educated.  

Though I don't have experience with this particular illness, I do know what it is like to lose a bunny.  My first bunny died young - he was only 2 years old.  He had ecuniculi, and he actually had a negative reaction to meds he was taking for it.   I know how hard it is, and I felt horrible, even though I know that with what I knew then I did the best I could.    But I know that doesn't make it feel much better.  It still hurts.   I know you loved her and she had wonderful life with you.  So even though her death hurts you, her life was happy and that's a wonderful gift you gave her.
