Olivia is in a pen and we have been putting newspaper on the ground. She loves to tear and shred it up. I don’t think she really eats it, most of the time I see her spit it out. Do you think this is safe for her?

If Mom is gonna keep her she is going to buy some cushion floor to put under the pen so we can get rid of the newspaper.

even if she eats a little bit is ok. the ink is most likely soy based and my bun does that all the time. he loves newspaper I try to lie on couch and read it he thinks it is for him to come and chew on. lol.

She’d probably love getting the yellow pages. It’s a recommended toy and also safe.

all of my bunnies have always enjoyed ripping at newspaper! the newsprint shouldn’t be any health risk, since most newspapers are printed with soy ink as bunnytowne mentioned.

Luey loves his newspaper reading and shredding too.

I line his littertray with newspaper … sometimes he will pull it out from the tray …  what a mess!

I have a couple bunnies who eat paper shreds as if they were hay, haha, just makes them have a few paper streaks in their poops Just make sure that she’s not eating it INSTEAD of the hay!

Mimzy likes to rip Kleenex and paper towels (usually because I’m cleaning his pen with them).
I used to use Swiffers to pick up his cast off fur with, until I realized they have Febreeze in them. >_< Now I just use those pet hair pickups and he tries to attack the tape. ^^

You just reminded me – my morning routine would be letting Spockie out while I put his breakfast in his house. He’d run and jump and then wait on my squishy living room chair staring at me getting my coffee until I came to join him there, then he’d jump off. (Usually) so I could sit. I always had a plain white napkin with a little fruit treat (think slice of banana, or 1/2 a grape). He’d be back on my lap in a flash, inhale the treat, then start to shred the napkin. He’d jump off, I’d put the napkin on the floor and he’d shred away! I always had bits of napkin around the carpet.

I realized something this week. I go on line to this website at exactly the same times of the day & evening when I used to spend with Spockie. It’s like I haven’t given up my bunny routine, just visit with you and your bunnies instead of my own. I know that may sound kinda sad, but it’s not. I really feel so good and relieved by doing this, even when I should be getting ready for work!

                      Thanks, all.

                            k&d,
Sorry for the delay in my reply. Been jumping around the website.

Yes, I very much want to get another bunny, and am stocking up on fresh supplies (not food perishables, but toys, seagrass matts, etc.) so when I do get one I am ready right away.

The problem is that I lost my job last year (May), searched while at home and was able to really care for him for 6 months. No work – bad; Spockie all day next to my computer – good. He went to the Bridge in December, and at the end of Feb. (I think) I found a part-time job in my field, which is going very, very well. However, it’s a non-profit museum and cultural institution with a tiny staff and small budget, and I can’t afford my current rent. My parents live only 5 miles away in their house, so I am moving in with them and putting all stuff into storage until I get back into full time work again. It may happen at this museum by October; at least I will know if I’m in the new budget before then.

Well, my Dad adored Spockie and drove me to the vet several nights when he was in his final days. My mother loves him too, and also went with me there. Dad told my mother that he really couldn’t handle being that attached again, and asked if I would not get another bunny until I am on my own again. (He just turned 84, is very healthy, more so than I am really, but it’s not fair to bunny proof their home – again.) I have to honor his wishes. He’s helped me so much in my life, and I adore them both, which is why I am living here and not job hunting elsewhere. (Also I just had a surgical procedure, and am fine, but it’s been a very hard year. I hated 2007.)

So, it’s a domino effect. Full time job = new apartment = unpack bunny stuff = new bunny!

This may work itself out in just a few more months, but for now I am starting to pack for the storage unit and getting a bunny fix by osmosis.
