So I bought “potty training pearls” for Boston’s litter box and they work all great and good, but I don’t live near a pet store or anything to get more on a regular basis. Is there any thing else that I can use for litter that is more money friendly, or eco-friendly?

I tried to do some research on the potty training pearls from critter litter and couldn’t find out much about what’s actually in the litter – so it makes me a bit wary. As bunnytowne recommended – it’s very important to steer clear of soft wood shavings – especially pine since it can be dangerous for bunnies . Also clay or corn cob based litters are not safe.

here are some bunny safe litters:

            Ecostraw from oxbow
            Critter Country
            Yesterday’s News
            Carefresh
            Aspen Supreme

you can also use hay as litter. Another option is to buy wood stove pellets (don’t pick premium kind) from a hardware kind of store – since they’re very cheap, I think a 40 pound box is under $6. Although they were cheap, I didn’t care for them since they turn into messy sawdust once they get wet.

I personally use aspen supreme since it is awesome with eliminating odor.

Where could I find Aspen Supreme?

I do believe the potty training pearls are made from “100% natural bentonite”…the package says it is a pure, non toxic inert clay material….if that helps!

also, if i end up us=ing the newspaper, do i shred it up first?

              Thanks you guys! =)

Believe it or not I actually get my Aspen Supreme pellets from “The Tractor Supply Store” Maybe u have one near u… Or maybe that’s just a southern chain store. Also I’ve seen some pellets in the ever popular Wal’Mart, but didn’t pay attention to the brand. I don’t know if all pellets are the same or not but I’m sure one of these nice people would be able to help u with that.

well, I know clay litters are not good for bunnies – so I’d likely stop using the pearl kind.

Aspen supreme is available also at many stores online and stores like petco. Perhaps you can pick it up during times that you’re near a larger city?
