Anzia is a little jersey wooly girl who was adopted out of The Rabbit Haven, and then returned because her human could no longer care for her.  She was to be adopted on Saturday of last week, but last Wednesday, her foster mom noticed that she was not eating.  Anzia was rushed to the vet, and the vet discover a huge infection in her upper jaw and gums.  Anzia had 12 teeth removed, and 4 surgical procedures to remove infected tissue and clean out the infected area.  She had her fourth surgery today, and she is literally fighting for her life tonight.  She is on antibiotics, pain meds and force feedings.  She needs all of the healing energy she can get.

You can read more about Anzia on The Rabbit Haven's website.

She is still alive, thankfully.  She is getting assist fed 3 times a day, and is on pain meds and antibiotics.  Her little mouth is just too sore to eat on her own.  She is with Auntie Heather, getting the best treatment that we know how to give her.

Poor bunner! (((((((((((((healing light and prayers for Anzia))))))))))))) I can only imagine how she feels, poor thing! I pray she heals quickly!
My hubby is going to have to have major dental surgery here soon, as his two front teeth have broken into the jawbone and he's going to have to go through much the same procedure as this poor bun had where they clean and scrape the jaw and gums....OUCH! You know, I'd rather have surgery at the hospital than even go to have my teeth cleaned at the dentist, for some reason it really chills me to have them poking around in my mouth.

Will she ever be able to have solid food again? How will she grind hay without twelve of her teeth?
Mimzy, Pip & Fiver...yup...my day is all about them. :)

I made a video for Anzia.  You can see in the video how skinny she is.  It is still touch and go for her, unfortunately.

I met Anzia yesterday.  We had our bi-weekly adoption show on Saturday, and Heather brought her along because she needs to be assist fed 3 times a day.  The good news: She has gained half a pound in the last week on Heather's diet of critical care and squash.  The bad news: she still looks pathetic.  As you can see in the video, she is a long haired bunny, and her hair is very matted because of her illness.  One of the surgeries required going into her mouth through her cheek, so one side of her face is shaved.  Poor thing looks terrible, but she seems to be in decent spirits.  She is not out of the woods yet.

I was surprised to see her so active in the video. Will she need the critical care and assisted feedings for the rest of her life, because of all the missing teeth?

I'm so glad to hear she's improving a bit and in good spirits. I will keep praying for little Anzia that she will be doing just fine very soon! Me and all the buns send her many healing wishes and good vibes.

We have other facial trauma bunnies before, and the ones that survived the surgeries were able to eat on their own after a while.  The pick up hay with their lips like a horse, and can then chew it with the back molars before swallowing.  Greens are passed through a cuisinart to shred them, and they pick them up the same way.  These bunnies had lost front teeth only, I don't know how many molars Anzia has left.
