I looked all over the sight, I'm not sure how to report her to craigslist, unless I just missed it...........

I'm so happy to have them back, I can't wait to move to our bigger place, they will have much more run time, I htink after this whole thing I am really gonna work and be patient and try and bond Rocky to the pair, I know he does fine with Mimzie....him & Wilbur do ok for about 10-15 minutes at a time, so maybe there is hope after all!

I'm glad they are back with you.  I'm sure they are happy to be back with someone who knows how to handle them correctly.

I would warn people on craigslist community and in the forum.  You may even find others that this happened to too, and you could all work together to stop it.   I would also report her to animal care and control as some places people need to have a license and have to be zoned to have a "rescue", and I would let them know what she did.

I would complain to craigslist as well.  Go to craigslist.org, then on the upper left hand side, click on help, faq, abuse, legal, then that will take you to a screen of a list of stuff, scroll down to the very bottom where it says send us a note, then it will take you to a screen where you can email them. Be sure to click on one that says "spam or scam",  as this is definitely a scam.

I am so sorry this happened to you.     Such a disappointment!

How did you find out that she was picking the bunny up by the ears?   This woman is totally disgusting all around from your description.  The only thing good was that she said they should go home together, at least she didn't try to separate them, but that could have been just an easier way for her to make more money at once.  Ech!

I will for sure do that. As for the ears, my friend Mark said to me "is it ok to pick them up by the ears" I gave him a horrified look and he said "oh no i never did that (he use to own a bun that died of old age)" (me) "why" (Him) " lets just say it's a good thing they are out of there"

my blood is still boiling over this.  i cannot imagine how you must feel.

i would definitely contact her and tell her you know... now that they're safe.  or i would show up at her house and pretend everything is cool, that you were in the area, and ask to see them b/c you "miss them".  then when she's clearly frustrated about what to do, tell her you know and what you think of her, and that you have the adoption agreement, have spoken with your lawyer, and will be pressing charges (even tho you really can't...)  just to scare her straight.

ugh.  i'm still mad.  can you tell?

Well unfortunetly I can;t really show up at her house unless I get another ride and it's not worth it, yeh by the way she lives over an hours away...and i don't drive so that was fun figuring that out. I'm lucky I have good friends that are animal lovers! I've thought about the asking to see them. She has called me 2 times to talk buddy buddy like she always does with me and right now I'm to furious to even pick up the phone. Even thought the worst is over I'm still having some serious anxiety over the whole thing.  oh and the whole time she didn't give them any hay either, she gave me back the full bag of what I bought for them. Also She told me they hadn't done any binkies since they were there and they have been doing it left & right now that they are back home! i'm tempted to give everyone her email address, lol we could all gang up on her

and talk about lucky that I did catch them on Craigslist, on top of it I had plans that night ...and i got blown off...just think had I not got blown off, I  might not have seen them on there!

Amy, I think what this woman does is appalling. I don't doubt the fact that she 'rescues' (if you can call it that) for profit, if this weren't the case she would simply have returned the rabbits to you if she found that she couldn't cope. I know it's hard to face someone you are angry with, especially if you are timid by nature as I am, but I think you ought to at least speak to her and inform her that you have the bunnies and are disgusted as well as looking at some ways to take it further. There may be nothing you can actually do so to speak but she doesn't know that and it should at least cause her a little concern. I wouldn't do it via email I would do it over the phone.

Last year I had a call from a lady asking if I could take in two rabbits that she had supposedly found dumped in a field. She had been keeping one in a hutch that she just so happened to have, and one in a box with some mesh over because they fought when they were together.  She also told me that they were a year old. It was obvious to me that they were her rabbits and she just wanted rid. She was very insistant I take them that day (friday) which I couldn't do because I was full up and wouldn't be able to take them until after Sunday when two other fosters went off to their new home. She was actually quite rude about it despite the fact I was still offering help and became agitated because she 'wanted to go away for the weekend!' I told her to think about it and get back to me. She called half an hour later and said that she would bring them over on the monday evening after her husband finished work. I told her that would be great as I was going down to the vets on the Tuesday and would take them in for a health check and neutering.  Monday I set everything up and bought new litter trays for them.....by 11pm I finally gave up on her coming and her phone was switched off so I had no way of getting in touch to find out what was happening. I was so angry because I didn't know what had happened to the rabbits and she had not only wasted my time but also my vets since I had allocated appointment times for them.

Tuesday I just so happened to be looking on Rabbit Rehome and low and behold there were two bunnies that sounded exactly like the ones I was supposed to take in....even said on their description 'found in a field' and they were at a vets not that far away from me. I called the surgery and asked for more information on them and it turned out it was the same lady that had taken them there...on the Sunday! she took them to the surgery near her house and apparently told the vet that if they didn't take them she would let them go in a field.... So I went and picked them up. I had the lady's work number and because I was so angry (I would never normally be so forward) I called her work place and when she wasn't available to speak to I left a long irate message with her work colleague and not so politely told her what I thought of her. Not sure it did much good, but I hope she was perhaps a little embarassed and it certainly made me feel a whole lot better!!!!

One of the bunnies went to live with my sister after being paired up, and the other was here a little longer because he was extremely aggressive and neutering didn't help. He eventually went to a lovely home and bunny friend as a house bunny and I still keep in touch with his new owners.

Home is not home without a bunny or two...or three....or four....:-)

Amy, this just makes my heart sick!! I am VERY relieved you saw the posting and was able to get the bunnies returned to you. How upsetting!!!

There's a special place in h*ll for people like her. I do hope you will report her to Craig's List. You also should really consider reported her to the local SPCA or rescue groups in the area, since I'm sure none of them will want to adopt animals to her in the future.

that's right... i forgot you didn't drive Amy.

i do absolutely agree with Charlie82 that you need to let her know you have them.

think about this:  she is so proud of herself right now that she made 50 bucks off of some sucker.

so... how about this then... next time she calls, PICK UP!!!

and when she asks you how you are or "what's up?", tell her you're "great... just hanging out at the house with Rocky, Wilbur and Mimzie.  remember them?  the bunnies you DUMPED!"

then be silent.  wait to hear what she has to say, or what excuse she might offer.

altho, i wouldn't be surprised if she just hung up on you.

oh my goodness - I just started reading this post today - I am sooo sorry that happened but I am so glad that you saw them again online! Thats awful that she would do that. Did she sign something saying that the bunnies would go back to you if she didn't want them? If so I'm sure thats a contract and a reason that you could at the very least get the money back from her that she made you pay. If I were you I'd actually be dying to pick up the phone and hear what in the WORLD she could have to say to you! I mean, is she going to pretend that she still has them? Thats ABSURD!! I am so so sorry!

Perhaps to make you more comfortable in the future if you adopt out you could tell people you require periodic homechecks for X number of weeks so that you don't have to feel worried if you adopt out again.

so I picked up and yeh she pretty much hung up on me, so I wrote her on her myspace and an email. I will more then likely be calling all the local rescues as well and letting them know. Charlie, my goodness...onbiously people just do not have they're heads screwed on right when it comes to animals.

There wil be no more adopting out as they are staying now, I do not want to put them or me through this again. I'm better off keeping them and knowing they will be happy and well loved instead of worrying! I bet she is pround of herself over the stupid $50 to...so sad people are. It really just blows my mind that she would even do this, I have literally spoken to her almost everyday in the past 2 months.

Sweet relief to have them back now though.

     Thank you everyone!

Amy, you go girl!  I'm glad you had the nerve to *ahem* speak with the spawn of satan . What I am also wondering is if she is running this rescue, not only check on the licensing but also if she has a special tax ID.  Uncle Sam I am very sure would be interested in her "rescue" business....just in time for taxes this year.. Also, give a "concerned" citizen call to the local ASPCA, or animal control about the animals, their conditions and how many are there....O.K. shoving the horns back down in my head, it is so hard not to get really angry about all of this.

it's been a couple days and still, every time i click this thread i get so mad all over again.

i'm glad you told her.  you'd be upset with yourself if you never let her know.  i would do what you could to let as many people know.

I am just so dumbfounded! And this woman was just calling as if things were normal? I mean I know she was calling because she didn't know you knew and she thought you were friends, but WOW....that's what is so mental. Freaks me out that people can be so off. I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that!!!

freaks me out how people can be like that too, yup calling liking everything was normal.......

I almost wish I had the balls to actually have shown up though and see what she would have said, but I was feeling rather violent and the fact that I am normally far from violent bothered me, it wouldn't have been a pretty scene to say the least.

Honestly I'm still a little shocked over the whole thing but like I said, greatful i have them back. *deep breath*....................

I am so greatful to have everyone on this site!

amy i think you did the right thing.  you kept the buns best interest in mind to find the quickest & least dramatic way to get them back.  its a challenge to do that when dealing with idiots who could use to be put in their place!  plus then you can have time to think of a rational & respectable way to deal with the situation - like reporting her or realizing its out of your hands or whatever - instead of thumping the person.

I like work. It fascinates me. I sit and look at it for hours.
