yesterday we put the xmas stuff away and moved Meadow back to her normal spot in the living room.  then i spent most of the afternoon making a new enclosure area for Meadow.  of course, she is allowed out in the living room (hallway & kitchen too) anytime we're home, but i wanted a larger area for her when we're not home or asleep.  she's in the largest Marchioro cage available (approx. 2x4 feet), but i've always felt bad that her space was so limited when we were not around.  i still wanted to use her cage... it's very easy to clean and disinfect because of the solid floor, and she's actually quite partial to it.

i purchased a large rug earlier this week to go in her new space and i used (a ton of) NIC cubes and ziptied a big enclosure for her to play in off of her cage.   she was a little hesitant at first, but once she sniffed each grid individually and made sure things were acceptable... she morphed into a "Bink-oholic".  everyone knows that Meadow is never shy with her Binkies, but she was definitely showing her pleasure with some amazing acrobatics.  it was so awesome to see her in a completely safe place, but still be able to get such airtime!

we went to get a bite to eat afterwards and the entire time we were gone, i was thinking, "Meadow's out, she's chewing the house into a hundred thousand pieces.  we're going to get home to a wild bunny party in our living room!"

but no... she stayed where she was supposed to, everything went perfectly... except for the "ziptie burn" on my thumbs... lol!!!  oh well... it's worth it to see my baby girl so happy!

i couldn't get pics to load, but i'll try to post some in this thread if i figure it out.

Yay for Meadow! I bet she does love her new space and you got the binky bill of approval from her.

I like the Marchioro Cages too - they are very nice but more room is better :~)

Can't wait to see pictures too.

lol my rabbits would hop on top of the cage and up over into the living room in about 15 minutes with that set-up! Is meadow a jumper/climber? I hope not!!

sorry for the multiple posts.  i've been trying to post pics and it has been giving me error messages... but at least it seems to be working now.  her space is on a 5x8 foot rug... it takes up a gigantic corner of our living room, but like i said, it's worth it to see her so happy.  her cage doors were open all night too... i'm sure she just had an absolute blast in there!

the only thing I'd be worried about is if she hopped up on top of her cage and then hopped over the fence. But I have found that eventhough buns can hop over a fence (as I have seen Dono able to do time and again) they seem to know that they aren't suppose to hop over it. Oh, he'll try to go THROUGH it or under it, but not over it.
My bonding quest with Maryann - Read about a less than easy bonding with two buns - but they did bond!

she's really not a high jumper.  and i'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't become one!  really tho... if she were to get out, it wouldn't be the end of the world.  she is about 95% trustworthy when she's out, so it wouldn't be a total disaster i don't think.  she doesn't like being on top of her cage b/c her little footsies go thru.  she's jumped on top of the cage before when we had a box next to it, and she freaked out and learned her lesson.

Yeah, I don't think that cage is favorable for jumping since the wires are so far apart and since she's already tried and learned then I wouldn't be terribly worried about that.

This is almost exactly what Edson's area looks like but I have an xpen attached.  Edson DOES sometime jump up on the cage part and then onto a file cabinet with his hay box on top. Makes me crazy! Of course then I'm so worried he'll get his paws stuck but hate to put a board up there as I think he'd be more likely to jump up there! I'm working on figuring this out because one day I just might find him out in some part of the house!

Great play area, my babies have started to climb the pen and can get up to the top. Little devils.

Since this looks a lot like Edson's digs you might want to get her a tunnel!  Edson loves his tunnel.  It's just a quickcrete concrete forming tube you can get at lumber stores or wherever they sell concrete.  He loves to dash through it.  Mine is 3' long. Just a suggestion!

digxmexnow... that was exactly what i thought when i first took the pics... she looks like such a tiny speck in there, but she's really not that small!  and she's putting every inch to good use.

it seems that her bahavior has been even better since getting her space.  i push one half of the grates to the side during the day so she can still have free run, but now she's taken to flopping in there on the carpeting, even tho she can flop anywhere else she pleases.  i think she definitely approves.  she's pulled up some bits of the carpeting (but she's a puller, not an injester!)  the edges of the rug are out of her reach when she's inside, so my smarty-bun walks around the outside and chews the edges when i'm not looking!

that's a great idea to get a concrete tube.  do they need to be cleaned first... i think i heard that they're kinda dusty the way they sell them...

baby bun has a tunnel like that too.  i got a 5' one & cut it in 2 pieces.  just a tip if you do this... might be a good idea to anchor it some how so it doesn't roll.  at least at first.  found this out the hard way.  was so excited to see baby using the tunnel i plunked her right infront of it.  she immediately went in to explore, got about halfway thru and stepped to one side a bit too much and... ::swooshing sound:::  tipped over on her side!  then, in a scrambling fury, the tube tilted 180 ::swooshing sound:::  right onto the other side!  she slowly emerged on the other end, still in a scrambling fury, completely on her side, bolted out and didn't return to the tube for at least a week.  of course all of this took place over the span of a few seconds or else... ahem... i would of helped her instead of... um... just standing there & laughing so hard.

About the tube - I looked for a really clean one and I did wipe it out but it was no big deal.  That's funny about the rolling tube.  It's not a problem on the sheet I have down but it rolled like crazy when I put it on the hardwood floor thinking Edson would come thru it from the xpen to the outside world!  But he kinda liked it and went back for more! You can brace it on both sides so it doesn't roll.  I wouldn't think it would be a problem on the carpet you have.

yes, carpet probably would anchor it enough.  i hadn't thought of that.  i have 2 pieces of 1x2's on either side now which shift  a bit but not enough to allow a flip over.  baby loves that tube.  she especially loves re-positioning it just so... apparently there's a 'specific' angle it needs to be at, so after i sweep up around it she always needs to re-adjust.  i wiped mine down with a well-rung-out wet cloth but it wasn't that dusty really.
