This weekend I’m taking Henryk to the local shelter to get his nails trimmed and scent glands cleaned, while we’re there we were going to speed date him with some single buns and adopt him a friend if he clicks with any of them (all potential mates have been spayed/neutered for over 2 months).
For the long term I would like to use the single 4ftx4ft square xpen for their litter and food, both rabbits will have free roam of my 600 sq ft apartment.

In the short term I would like recommendations on what I should get and set up if we bring a new bunny home?

I’m thinking of housing the new bun in my spare bathroom, which is almost never used and Henryk has almost never been in (giving the bunny their own “territory” to start from). I’ll put a blanket, food bowl, water bowl, and litter box in the tub and setting up boxes like stairs so they could easily hop in and out at their will?

        Thoughts?

PS of the unlikely: if Henryk and this bun appear to have an immediate love connection should I still separate them for the first few weeks aside from ‘dates’?

Yes, even if they seem to hit it off at the meeting, that could all change when you introduce the stranger to Henryk’s home.

You should let the new bun settle in for a week or two before prebonding. Very important to do some prebonding and not just jump straight to dates. Let the new guy settle in and then switch toys, blankets, litter trays to get them acclimated to each other’s scent. Could you set up a baby gate in the doorway so they can constantly see/smell each other and not be separated by a closed door?

I do have a baby gate but I may need to buy a new one as Henryk is very capable of climbing them.

LOL Ophelia is the same, I call her my little Olympic jumper. I had to stack two baby gates in the doorway. I used small pieces of wood pressed between the stoppers and the door frame to make the hold on the second gate extra sturdy.

                      That’s a good idea! I’ll try that
