  Hello. I currently have a neutered male Netherland dwarf rabbit, who has just turned 1. We really want to get him a new little friend. We are looking to pick up a mini lop / angora rabbit today – 6 weeks old. Due to the age of the new rabbit does it matter that it hasn’t been spayed yet when it comes to bonding? I’ll definitely be getting her spayed as soon as possible but I would also like to introduce them (neutral ground etc etc). Our first rabbit has a large two story outdoor hutch and a large balcony to play on. He also has free run of our apartment when we are home.
  
  Just looking for any advice or suggestions – I’ve read a lot of different bonding guides. Should we just get a second temporary hutch until the new rabbit is spayed or more comfortable with the first? Can we still do some introducing on neutral ground even though she isn’t spayed? Thanks in advance!

  Some people have been able to bond a young rabbit with a neutered adult but there is the risk of things turning sour when the young one reaches puberty. Then the rabbits having to be separated after living together and re-bonded after the 2nd rabbit is desexed.
  
  It doesn’t always go that way but it is something to prepare for. It’s not alway a “true” or strong bond when one or both are babies.
  
  Any chance the current owner can keep your new bun-to-be with the mother a bit longer. Ideally, they should stay with them for 8 weeks.

  Hi Jerseygirl, thank you. Unfortunately we already picked her up – I was wondering that as well as our first rabbit was 8 weeks. All though I don’t think they were as professional as the Netherland dwarf breeder.
  
  Yes I had read that before about bonding and then changing with hormones etc. We have done a couple of mini introductions in Neutral territory but trying to keep them separate for now. The male was mostly ok all though tried to mount her a couple of times. Separated them so she doesn’t get stressed with the move etc.
