My family will soon be bringing home two 11 week old Holland Lops, and thanks to the lovely people on this forum I now know that they must be kept separately until they are neutered (they are both bucks). Both will be kept indoors in the same room. Can you recommend cages for them?

Also, once they are neutered we will move them into a larger house together, does anyone have any suggestions for a large home? I have been looking at the Advantek Stilt house. One last question, I am thinking of getting a large hutch, such as the Advantek Row House, and putting a pen/gate around it so they have access to almost the full room, is this a good idea? Is this better than just getting a hutch? They will be out and with my family most of the time but I do not want them restricted at nighttime. I am a new bunny owner and I would appreciate any advice.

Personally, I recommend studying up on how to build a bunny condo/habitat from what are called “NIC” (from the brand name, Neat Idea Cubes) office-storage grid cubes. It does take a bit of handy-skill to put them together, but they’re far cheaper than store-bought cages or hutches and you can put them together in literally any configuration and size you want. There are some folks who will build those for you, though you’ll have to pay a bit of a premium, if you really don’t feel up to building one yourself.

Second Joea64’s suggestion. You will get more space for less money (and happier bunnies) if you build something out of the storage cube grids.

It really only requires the cubes, zip ties, dowels and plywood for the levels, and something for the base. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t require much in the way of tools. I had the hardware store cut the dowels and plywood to the lengths I wanted. You could then start with smaller ones for the individual bunnies, and then reconfigure and combine the materials to make one large condo for them once they are bonded!
