my tiny guy pluto managed to get out of his cage this morning and has a new cut on his nose.

im not sure if my older guy kyle bit him (unlikely, since whenever they’re near each other, kyle usually takes no interest, and pluto will be the one to try to nip) or if he struggled to get out of his cage and that did it.

in any case, im keeping pluto in the pen and out of kyles reach.

i’m waiting to take him to the vet until i get him neutered (since vet visits add up) and i was wondering what i could do in the meantime to try and make sure it doesnt get worse.

im wary of using any alcohol-based disinfects (hydrogen peroxide and similar) and im also a little worried that if i put neosporin on it he’ll try to lick it off. (although, ive used neosporin with kyle numerous times and never had any issues.) will band-aids get stuck in his fur? is this a situation where i need to get the vet involved? am i making a big deal out of nothing?

(clarification: kyle and pluto are in separate cages, and pluto gets the pen in the morning, and kyle runs around in the afternoon. i dont usually let them around each other, as im waiting until pluto is a little more used to me and until i get him neutered.)

How severe is the cut? Heavy bleeding? The image didn’t show up (this board has a wonky method of posting images, and a lot of people have trouble with it, especially if they’re on a phone or tablet). If it’s a small one, you can try applying styptic powder or a styptic pencil; this is a basic part of many people’s bunny first-aid kits which is especially used to repair accidental too-deep cuts during nail-trimming, but can be effectively used on other kinds of small cuts.

**OP reposted so link to image works now.

It doesn’t look too bad, eggmail. I think a dab or neosporin wouldn’t hurt. Distract him with some food directly after and he may not groom it off straight away. Some will stay trapped in the fur anyway and disinfect around the wound.
