My bun Jasper is 7 and has not been eating his greens or much hay. He is still eating his favorite treats and some sunflower seeds, he’s also drinking water. He has been having some mushy poops and smaller poops than the normal round ones. There is also less poop overall. I tried giving tummy massages as well as 1 dose of infant gas drops but can’t get him to take another dose. I’m thinking of bringing him to the vet but my problem is that he is a very anxious bunny. I put him in the hallway one time when I was changing his cage and his nose was going about 100mph when he came back in then he laid down for a while after. He gets stressed super easily. The vet is about 15 min away and I’m afraid he will get super stressed in the car (hasn’t been in one since he was little) and I know rabbits don’t do well under stress. Honestly I’m afraid he might have a heart attack if he’s away from home for that long! Does anyone have similar experiences? Do you think he can handle the trip? Should I try to wait it out or give another dose of gas meds? I’m at a loss. Please help!! P.s. He is a Netherland dwarf probably only 3-4 lbs.

Is he molting right now? So potentially ingesting more fur than usual?

Yes he is…do you think it could be a hair ball?

Potentially. Unlike cats, rabbits cannot cough up hairballs, so it’s important for your rabbit to 1) stay hydrated and 2) eat as much hay as possible to clear the fur through.

If it doesn’t regulate back in the next couple hours, you may need to do a vet visit to make sure nothing else is askew.

To encourage hay appetite, try offering only fresh, out of the bag hay, and maybe buying a bag of his favorite kind of hay. Back off on sugary treats so he’s encouraged to eat the hay.

Thank you. I called into the vet and got some critical care that I’m trying to syringe feed him. If he does not improve I have an appt for tomorrow.
