I have a male unaltered bunny who is a little more than 8.5 years old. About a week ago I notice a change in his eating and his bathroom usage. I did a little at home care and got him eating practically back to his normal amount but he is still not pooping the normal amount. He had one episode of gut stasis several years back and nothing since then. He doesn’t seem to be drinking enough. I have given him water by syringe a couple times over the last few days and each time he has pooped within half a hour of the forced water. He is still grooming as normal and like I said, is very close to his normal amount. He has a vet appointment Thursday but I’m just fearful that this may be the end. He is my first bunny and I’ve had him since he was about 9 weeks. I don’t really know what to look for as he ages. I’m not sure if this is a digestion issue or if it he is shutting down all together.

You could try wetting his vegetables before you give them to him to make sure he’s getting some water in him until his vet appointment.

Try not to think about “the end” yet, just take things one day at a time with your little guy. I know how hard that can be to do sometimes, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned with bunnies, it’s that the tiniest thing can throw their life off balance. You just have to find that thing and fix it, and hopefully all will be well! Good luck
