        Hey guys,
I’m having a nightmare with my continental giant Bella who I have had for 2 years recently she had her nails trimmed at the vets because they were so over due a trim but then she became sick and I had to postpone her nail trimming for a while so they grew superrr longgg. But long story short I took her to the vet and they trimmed her nails for me and honestly I had never seen her nails trimmed so short ever. Usually when I go the vets the nurses who are students do it and they trim the tiniest bit off but this time a vet trimmed her nails and he cut a lot off. Now Bella has been chewing at a few of her nails and they have become shorter or they just have bite marks on them. I’m worried that Bella may chew them down to the quick and cause pain to herself and begin to bleed. Since she got her nails cut which was 5 days ago she has been chewing them less and less but I’m still worried because she hasn’t stopped completely. I believe part of the reason must be because she’s not used to having such short nails but I was wondering whether there’s any other reason as Bella has never done this before? How could I stop her from biting her nails? I need help

That is odd. I have heard of some rabbits trimming their own nails but she was obviously not doing that before for them to get so long. Did any of the nails bleed when the vet cut them?
What sort of condition are they in? Any flakiness o split parts? Im wondering if they’ve split a bit as a result of the trim.
Did they put anything on the nails before cutting perhaps?

It is good she is doing it less now. Maybe it is as you say, it’s just an odd feeling to her.. I really don’t know!

I will post a picture of a few of her nails once I’m home but her nails from memory are just pretty sharp from her biting them down they have a lot of bite marks on them and some of them that she’s managed to bite down have just simply gotten shorter. Thankfully she hasn’t gotten down the quick so there has been no bleeding but she’s still have nibbles on them. There are no splits in her nails, there is bits of her nails flaking off but that’s from her biting and chewing on them. Before trimming her nails the vet did not put anything on them he simply just trimmed them but he did trim too much off compared to how long they were. Also Bella is scratching and digging my carpet even more so I’m pretty sure her nails are bothering her.
