Baby bun was spayed today. She came home and was okay at first but now seems to be in a decent amount of pain, which is to be expected. However, the vet didn’t recommend or give any type of pain medication. She recommended i purchase premixed bene bac, but nothing for pain. Once i got home, i started calling pet stores around me. No one carries it pre mixed, all powder only. So i called the vet to tell her and she told me its not really needed anyway. Opinions? Should i get a second opinion? Should i call back and demand pain meds? Yes, she is experienced in rabbit spay. I feel so bad for my poor baby.

Is she grinding her teeth? I would demand pain meds, and if the vet doesn’t prescribe them then I would go somewhere else and demand them. Buns tend to not want to eat after being spayed, which can cause stasis, and a bun in pain is even more likely to not eat. Has she eaten/drank anything since surgery? Try to check and see if her ears feel cool/cold, and offer her a fleece blanket to snuggle up with (but make sure she can move away from it if she wants to).

Ditto. I think it would be good to have some on hand. And warms helps, as suggested.  Sending some swift recovert {{{vibes}}} her way!

Usually the first 12 hrs they don’t want to eat or move. Often they give a shot of pain med at the clinic before they go home, then oral doses for the owner to give the next day if needed.

Though, with my 1st rabbit, I wasn’t given any. Luckily, she was hopping around like normal by 5am the next day. My other girls were done at a different clinic. I was given meloxicam for them but in hindsight, the dose was probably so low it would hardly have touched the surface of any pain they had. : (

Does she have a favorite veggie? After Luna’s spay, I gave her parsley to entice her to eat (and treats of course ).
