So I had just realized now what has been going on with my bunny Paar. Since Sunday I’ve noticed a slight difference in his walking but I just thought it was a knot (which I had gotten out). I also very lightly moved his foot to see if there wasanything else and he spazzed and ran to the corner and onto the litter box.
I watched him hop off his litter box and go in a circle next to it in the corner and that’s when I realized he wasn’t walking on it. I feel horrible now because i think I made it worse ):
He’s going to the vet Thursday to be neutered but I’m very upset and concerned right now. He keeps walking in a circle in the corner of my room…I assume trying to get comfortable but can’t?
He’ll sit for a few minutes before doing it again. Grooming himself in between.
He’s eating and drinking. He’s not using the litter box much which I now understand why. Most likely too painful to hop onto it.
What should I do in the mean time till he goes to the vet Thursday morning? I would like to take him tomorrow but I highly doubt my mom will do it when we’re going Thursday anyway.
        Please help!

Update: Just got home from the vet and according to the doctor we had he said everything seems fine. Nothing is broken as far as we know. Sadly wasn’t the rabbit savvy vet. He called out last minute but I’m just happy we got him checked. He’s still going in to be neutered tomorrow and the vet we had tonight will tell him about his foot. He said there might be something in his matted foot fur that may be causing discomfort, a knot or just sore. They won’t know for sure till tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s just a knot at this point. They will be shaving him too so they will get a better look once that is done.
For now just lots of loving and all the hay he can eat before midnight!

I think you should call the vet that’s going to do the neuter. They might not want to neuter him if he’s injured, because an injury plus surgery could be a little bit more stressful than ideal. A vet will probably want to examine his leg to see if it’s broken or just sprained and if it needs a splint. They probably also want to give him an anti-inflammatory painkiller (Metacam, most often) that can help take down any swelling.

It’s good that he’s grooming himself, that’s very central for a rabbit. Walking in circles isn’t though and I too think it means he has trouble getting comfy.

Yes very true! I will let my mother know this in the morning and hopefully we can see the vet tomorrow and perhaps reschedule the surgery. I just hope the rabbit savvy vet is in tomorrow but if I remember correctly he’s only in on certain days.
I want to get him as comfortable as possible but I think he’s afraid of me at this moment. I don’t want to frighten him so should I just let him be until morning while keeping an eye on him?

I’d let him be but keep an eye and make sure he eats. If he takes a turn for the worse and/or refuses to eat you’d of course want to act sooner. If you have a fleece blanket you could lay that out for him to get comfy on. He’ll probably pee and poop on it though, but fleece is easy to wash. Poor little bub!

I have a ton of fleece blankets on the floor so I hope he’ll wobble over sometime once he’s done being upset with me.
Thank you for responding fast. I was panicking because this is my first time dealing with it. A lot calmer now.
Will keep updates and hopefully it’s nothing serious.

Hopefully its just a sprain! You should try and restrict his movements, meaning take out things he could climb on or hop onto – although it doesn’t sound like he’s feeling a lot like playing right now. He should keep rather still, so don’t chase him (well, obviously!). We’d love updates!

Hope it all works out – don’t forget to offer him as much hay as he’ll eat right up to when it’s time to administer the anesthetic.

I’m glad to hear the leg seems ok!

You should not be fastig him after midnight on the day of the surgery, if that’s why you mean by all the hay he wants until midnight. . Sometimes vet techs tell you to fast a rabbit out of routine, because all other species animals inc humans must fast before they’re put under. But rabbits can’t vomit so they don’t need fasting. Food should be taken away 30 mins before surgery so there’s no food in the mouth or esophagus, that’s all. There should always be food in a bunny tummy in order for it to work properly.

I wish I had known this…but it is too late. He didn’t make it through the surgery. His heart couldn’t handle it.
I knew something would happen I could feel it in my gut. I wish I would rewind time and skip the surgery for awhile.

I’m so very sorry to hear this. There is always a risk with anesthesia. Buns can be born with heart conditions or a liver that’s not good at metabolizing anesthetic agents. For what it’s worth, I don’t think it would’ve made a difference if you had fed him before dropping him off, too little food typically causes tummy problems that are not immediate but manifest post surgery.

It’s so very sad. It’s obvious from your posts that you loved him, animals know when they’re loved. Binky free, sweet little bun.

I’m so very sorry. Please don’t feel as if it’s not feeding him post-midnight that led to this; as @bam says, any such problems would actually turn up in the post-surgery period. Binky free…

Thank you both so much. He was my baby boy. I will be hurting for awhile, but I know he isn’t in pain now. That’s all I could ask for…

Thank you ): Tonight is my first night sleeping in my room because I haven’t been able to bring myself to be in my room since he passed. Feels weird being alone.
