I don’t know what to do about it… should I shave off all her butt fur to prevent this from happening? She also doesn’t have a tail so I was thinking this could have caused her urine to be all over her butt as well. I clean their litter boxes very often but she’s always sitting in it since that is where she eats her hay.

Does she have long fur? The area could be shaved but the skin is extremely delicate and easy to cut so it’s not something I would recommend. By removing all the fur I think you may also make her skin more susceptible to urine scald, because there wouldn’t be a fur barrier.

How often is very often in regards to cleaning the boxes? Have you tired using different/more absorbent types of litter or using a litter tray that has a grate or sieve tray in it so that the urine runs through to prevent her from sitting in wet litter?

As for the mats, you could try and gently comb them out, a tiny bit at a time. Otherwise clipping particularly bad mats out can be helpful (though again extreme care must be taken not to cut the skin).

If she’s always sitting in it, try something more absorbant and try cleaning more often.

I’d recommend a screen to go on top of the litter box if you don’t have one already! You can see Wick’s here: http://www.instagram.com/wick_theboogeyman

              — It’ll drain the urine out so the sitting area is relatively dry. Also, generally adding more litter below the screen helps because the urine seeps in deeper, meaning the surface litter with touches the screen is less wet.

She’s an English Spotted rabbit so her fur isn’t so long. I realized that I used to clean out their litter boxes every other day, but then changed to every 2 days since I started to put more bedding in their boxes. (Her butt fur wasn’t bad at all back then) I’m going to have to start going back to every other day, plus purchasing a grate! That’s actually a really smart idea (thank you Wick, also!)

                Thank you so much everyone!
