My rabbit had an accident about a week ago. He was chewing cords and had an electrical shock, i only noticed it later because he didn’t eat all day. So i took him to a vet, who said that he has burns on lower lips, tongue and that his heart, lungs and breathing was fine.           The vet said that he probably wont eat on his own a few days and gave me recovery food for 3 days, painkiller (Meloxidyl) for 5 days and Antibiotic (Enrobioflox) for 2 weeks.

After i ran out of the recovery food i’ve been feeding him baby food, so i’ve been syringe feeding him for 8 days now. Every morning i try giving him soft food and he tries to eat but he can’t, he only licks it, he is so sad because of it. Whenever i syringe feed him i see a white blister on his tongue, that’s probably the reason he can’t eat.

How long do these things usually heal?

I’m sorry your bun hurt himself. Thank goodness he didn’t get worse injuries!

It’s not possible to give an estimate of the time he’ll take to heal without knowing the extent of the damage. And even then, lots of factors are at play here.

It’s important that he gets food in him for the wounds to heal.
It’d be more beneficial for him nutrition-wise if you soaked his normal pellets in water and fed the mush to him in a syringe. You can mush it up really good and mix it with baby food for a yummier taste. Pellet mush is similar to recovery food.

I think you should call the vet you saw and say your bun is still isn’t eating. You could ask for more of the painkiller and perhaps some ranitidine to protect his tummy while this is going on.

We’d be very happy for updates.
