Bella always jumps into her litterbox when i put new hay in the rack above. Now she wasn’t interested. I checked her butt for fly eggs since a fly yesterday came into my room and probably went to the living room so i don’t knkw actually, i don’t have that sticky paper for flies or whatever. She doesn’t wanna eat hay but pellets she will. I gave her a leaf of salad and she ate it and a small strand of parsley which she also ate. I’ll check her bum again now to thorougly investigate. Is she fine? She drank water from her bowl, decent amount, almost halfway gone. I clean ed her litterbox and cage but she doesn’t know how to use the litterbox although she was pretty good going into it but only to pee which was great, but she pees all over the cage Now. When she is hopping around in her cage she steps on the pee and gets damp pee feet. I know flies are attracted to damp fur so i wanted to ask for some advice?

Not sure about the pee/wet feet issue but in regards to hay – is it just that she isn’t excited about the hay that’s concerning? How long has it been going on? My rabbits love fresh hay but even they sometimes just chill out while I’m refilling. They might be sleepy or they’ve just stuffed their faces.

Some more observation today is warranted. It sometimes takes a few minutes, up to half an hour, after a hay refill before my own rabbits get interested in the new stuff. I expect this is related to how it smells to them and how hungry they are at the time.

She started eating hay just now. She hasn’t been near it for 1 and half hours ( i edited the time cause i didn’t calculate the time right) but was doing everything else.I now noticed she has some pee problems. Her butt is really wet, not poopy just wet and soaked. Also her feet as i said and paws. Although i can understand the wet paws cause she sometimes puts her paws in the water bowl. I just took some paper towel and wiped her butt and putt a lot of bedding so she can dry her paws and feet.

From what you say, could it be possible she splashed her butt in the water bowl by accident while you weren’t looking? My own two have a big ceramic water bowl and they’ve been known to drop toys in it, also, it’s under the between-levels ramp in their condo so I have to be careful to push it all the way under there so neither of them has a mishap and lands in it feet-first if they should ever slip on the ramp. Drying her off with a paper towel and providing fresh dry bedding are good moves, let’s see how she does cleaning herself up when she grooms herself next. How often do you change out the used litter/bedding and soiled/damp hay in the litterbox as a rule?

Glad she’s eating hay now As I said, if the buns are a bit sleepy or they’ve just eaten they might not be enthusiastic about fresh hay. It’s good that you’re being very vigilant tho, if any issues were to arise I’m sure you’d be on top of it

For the wet butt, are you positive it’s urine? Or could she have gotten wet from the water bowl as Joe suggested?

As far as wet butt/paws, I forgot to mention that Panda and Fernando like to put their paws in the (big) salad bowl when they’re having supper, which will certainly get them damp as I wash their spring mix before serving it to them (both to ensure cleanliness and for the extra water).

Seeing as rabbits have hay 24/7 over time it can just become less exciting. Perhaps she just wasn’t hungry for it when you fed it. Rabbits need access to hay 24/7 but won’t eat it for all of that time.

I agree wet bum could be water bowl. Greebo has done that more than once.

Keep an eye on overall hay intake, poos, and wees and see how you go.

Very true. I keep Panda and Fernando stocked with new deposits of hay twice daily, in the mornings and evenings, and occasionally even before bedtime if they’ve been particularly enthusiastic about chomping in the evenings. They can often go for an hour or two between visits to the litterbox for snacking, but when they do it’s entirely possible that they’ll stay in there for half an hour calmly chewing tasty strands while I’m fuming out in the X-pen waiting for them to come out and play.

She never really does that. I’m not sure it was water since i was obesrving her the whole time so i’ve would’ve probably seen that. I let her out today and she was content and playful, got into the hay box again lol, munched for an hour. I sometimes just let her hop into the box and let her eat to her heart’s content. She does worries me a lot lately gosh there have been problems. She chewed out my laptop cable and then i had to get a new one, glad she was ok… the outcome would be fatal if it was plugged in and she chewed it all the way to the wires. I just bought a new one. I came home at 10:00pm and let her out for a bit since she was so frustrated i didn’t let her out when i was gone and i just went to the kitchen.. And when i came back she was chewing the cable! Boy was i mad but i forgive her, this is bunny mischief we’re talking about here so. It was my fault tho, i forgot to put the cable protector or at least put it somewhere out of her reach.

I would very much like to be able to give Panda and Fernando more free run of my apartment, but first more of my place must be made bunny-safe, particularly the “nest” of computer cables and power cords around my desktop PC, and also the various low-slung bookcases that need to be protected from over-enthusiastic interest in literature.

That’s funny! Finn’s not allowed in my room anymore because of his over interest on young adult novels and classic children’s novels! He almost got into my little women and miss peregrine’s books just the other day

Yeah mine are pretty much the same! And I have found that since having a trio, they all want to eat a bit more and a bit faster! It’s quite funny because they still share so nicely but you can see that little bit of logic that “if I eat faster it’s all mine!!!”
