My bunny is 3 months and can i put him in a room with the window slightly open? Since it’s literally almost september should i worry about cold wind and draft? Do rabbits get sick from cold wind? How do i know if it’s too cold? Cause the room upstairs is kinda warm and my parents smoke so it all goes up.. and i don’t want my bunny to suffocate. *And thank you if you answer i read everything you reply* ♡

I don’t think he should be right next to the window, but rabbits aren’t as sensitive as guinea pigs and parakeets, so having one open in the room should be fine. Probably close it if there is a dramatic change in temperature one day or night.

I keep my studio apartment window open with a fan on almost 24/7 all year, otherwise the air gets stuffy. But then again the climate is mild where I live.

Generally too warm is worse for rabbits than too cold.

Generally speaking, if the temperature is comfortable for you, it will be fine for your bun – and yes, cooler is better than warmer.
Having said that, just make sure bun has access to a spot that’s sheltered from draft.

The only issue I can see with having a windows open is the chance of flies coming in. I know generally flies are only a problem if living conditions aren’t stellar but I’m still paranoid.

Flies can cause a condition in rabbits known as flystrike. The flies lay eggs around the rabbits bum and those eggs become maggots.

Another thing is that Cats and Foxes etc can jump a lot higher and get through gaps a lot smaller than a lot of people think. So if you have the window open at any point, you really need to be watching.

Unless there’s a screen on your window, in which case you only need to worry about potentially startling noises.

My bunny room is pretty small and I often open the window on nice days. I’m assuming they enjoy the fresh air. I know I do.
