Hi MooseBunny – I’m glad that I was of some help to you. It’s very exciting that you brought home Isidore today. It does take a few days or longer for a bunny to settle into a new place. Sit near him and talk to him as he gets used to you and his new home. You will soon learn from his body language what he likes or doesn’t like. Some people keep their bunnies penned up for the first few days, others start letting their bunnies roam around a bit right away. It probably is best to keep them in a smaller area at first, then as time goes by, you can let them start exploring more places – bunny proofed places, of course.

I get an error message when I click on the link for the picture, but hopefully a forum leader can help you with that.

Isidore, that’s oddly similar to my rabbit’s name! My bun’s name is Theo, which is short for Theodore, which is in turn derived from Isidore.

Welcome home Isidore! Most rabbits will be a bit shy in the first couple of days. The golden rule with new rabbits is: let everything depend on them.

Let them choose if they feel safe enough to leave their cage.
Let them choose if they feel safe enough to approach you.
Let them choose choose how long the interaction between you lasts.

Holding a rabbit tightly against its will or forcing them to leave a safe place will damage your bond. Keep in mind that a rabbit’s first instinct is to be fearful of change and to flee and hide in a safe space. It helps to place hidey-holes throughout the room, like upturned cardboard boxes with an entrance and an exit. They are prey animals, so you really have to make an effort to convince them that you’re not a threat.

I hope you’ll bond quickly and have a great time together!

How exciting! If that’s Isidore in your avatar, he’s darling. Welcome to bunny parenthood.
