Which are the safest types of wood to use? How about oak?

          Oak is toxic to rabbits.
Here’s a link to safe vs toxic woods : https://www.thespruce.com/safe-woods-and-plants-for-rabbits-1239351

Also as an aside a wooden cage could be nothing but heartache long run if your rabbit is a chewer and decides to nom through it! (I have a wooden pen that was destroyed in a couple of months!)

I’m surprised that birch is listed as not safe on the link that Dface gave. I have always heard that birch was a safe wood for rabbits. I’ve seen that mentioned here, on Bun Space and on other rabbits sites. Like pine, look for the kiln dried birch wood.

Birch contains methyl salicylate which is toxic in its natural state-so if the wood isnt dried(has any of its natural moisture or sap and it’s ingested its considered toxic.
